  • Klapheke one of four in U.S. selected for newspaper internship program

    An Eastern Kentucky University junior is one of four students in the U.S. selected for the first summer internship program offered through the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors.
    Daniel Klapheke will intern at the Illinois Valley News in Cave Junction, Oregon. Klapheke, from Cynthiana, is managing editor of The Eastern Progress student newspaper and has also interned at The Falmouth Outlook in northern Kentucky. He is a journalism and broadcast/electronic media double major and honors student. He plans to graduate in May 2017.

  • Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation Scholarships available

    Paul D. Everman Fund for Lifetime Learning Scholarship.
    One scholarship up to $3,000 to a non-traditional student, pursuing a four-year course of study.

    Eligibility
    •Applicant must be a member of Kentucky Farm Bureau for at least two years prior to applying for this award.
    •Applicant must be a Kentucky high school graduate (GED is acceptable).

  • Harrison County Middle School Band

    The Harrison County Middle School Seventh and Eighth Grade Band under the direction of Julie Lucky performed for the Kentucky Music Educator’s State Assessment on Tuesday, March 15 at Singletary Center for the Arts in Lexington Kentucky.
    The 115 piece band performed A Childhood Hymn by David Holsinger and Black Forest Overture by Michael Sweeney. They received Distinguished Ratings from all three judges.
    Their next performance will be The Starry Night on April 23 at 7 p.m. and then their Spring Concert on May 15 at 2 p.m., both in the HCHS auditorium.

  • Academic briefs

    ALAS
    Jessica Alas, a graduate of Harrison County High School Class of 2013, has been recognized for high academic achievement during the fall semester of 2015 with inclusion on the Dean’s List in the College of Business and Technology at Morehead State University.  
    She has remained on the Dean’s list throughout her freshman and sophomore years and the first semester of her junior year as well.

  • HCHS Mock Democratic Primary Election and Mock Republican Caucus

    Harrison County High School students and faculty participated in a mock Democratic Primary Election and Mock Republican Caucus on March 9. They registered, heard speeches in support of candidates and cast votes. Results Breakdown: Students--633 registered students; Republicans--394 registered (Trump 275, Cruz 72, Rubio 42, Kasich 10); Democrats--239 registered (Sanders 193, Clinton, 46); Faculty--52 total voters, including abstainers; Republican--38 (Trump 15, Rubio 11, Cruz 7, Kasich 5); Dems--10 (Clinton 6, Sanders 4); Abstainers--4.
