  • FBLA Wins Awards At State Conference
  • HCMS receives numerous awards at annual KUNA conference

    Harrison County Middle School 6th-8th grade students, along with advisors Jean Jones and Whitney Criswell,  attended the Kentucky United Nations Assembly in Louisville, Ky., March 24-26.
    This is one of the largest UN conferences in the country, and allows students to learn about other countries, cultures, and diplomacy in a hands-on way.  These students represented the countries of Belize and Spain in the model UN conference.

  • Authors visit Licking Valley MCTC classes

    The Licking Valley Campus of MCTC uses a variety of resources to enhance student learning. MCTC has a wide variety of teaching resources including textbooks, travel and technology. Two LVC instructors utilized resources on Wednesday, April 10 that would allow students the opportunity to hear from real world writers.
    Two contemporary authors visited  the campus each a guest in two separate classes: Eng. 234, Women’s Lit and  ENC 90/91, Writing Preparation.

  • Harrison County Elementary Academic League

    The 2012-13 Harrison County Elementary Academic League concluded their competitive year by participating in a quick-recall double-elimination tournament on March 23 held at the Indian Creek Christian Church Life Center.
    Eastside Elementary claimed the first place trophy with their varsity team going undefeated on the day of the tournament.
    Westside Elementary claimed the second place trophy for the year. At the time of the tournament, Westside’s varsity team enjoyed an undefeated record throughout the six season matches and the mid-year round robin tournament.

  • Dead end life leads Boardman back to school

    Bret Boardman was your typical high school student. He did well in school and excelled in percussion instruments with the Paris High School Marching Band. After graduating from PHS in 1999, he began his coursework at Morehead State University.
    Again, he performed well in the classes he really liked, but admitted he couldn’t see the point of taking classes that didn’t interest him, even though those classes were a part of his graduation requirements. At the end of his freshman year, Boardman dropped out of college.

    Julianna Christine Margaret Leith, daughter of Tom and Anna Leith of Cynthiana, has received notification that she has been awarded one of the Menger Scholarships offered to students attending the University of Cincinnati.
    The scholarship is awarded to students preparing to be teachers in various disciplines. Leith is working toward her Bachelor of Science degree in Signed Language Interpreting with an emphasis in Educational Interpreting.

    Navy Seaman Recruit Jake A. Ayala, son of Theresa B. Cember and Rich A. Ayala, both of Cynthiana, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
    During the eight-week program, Ayala completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
