  • KCTCS sponsoring survey to identify workforce needs

    The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) is part of a statewide group sponsoring a Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management (KYSHRM) survey called Bridging the Talent Gap. The survey will help identify skill shortages in the state. The data gleaned from this survey will assist KCTCS and other education providers to better understand workforce and education needs.

  • Band members attend Clinic at EKU

    Eleven members of the Harrison County High School Band attended the annual Honor Band Clinic held at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond last weekend.  
    Students are nominated and then selected for participation in early February.  
    Upon arrival at the clinic, each student plays a short audition and is placed in one of the three honor bands.  Under the direction of nationally renowned conductors, the students then rehearse music that is presented in a final concert on Saturday evening.

    FALL GRADUATES
    Eastern Kentucky University recognized graduates at the conclusion of the Fall 2016 semester.
    The graduates were honored at separate academic college commencement ceremonies Dec. 16-17.
    Harrison County EKU graduates include: Lawrence Joseph Butler, Ashlee N. Gaunce, Emily B. Philpot, Brittany R. Lewis.

  • Follow these tips to do better on the ACT

    Juniors in Kentucky public high schools will take the ACT on March 21. These tips from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) may help students do better on the test.
    Read, read, read. Most of the ACT is based on reading. The more you read, the better you’ll do.
    •Take advantage of any free ACT prep courses offered by your school or by local colleges and libraries.
    •Take practice tests online or buy practice tests for use at home.
    •Familiarize yourself with the sections and directions.

  • KCTCS and universities collaborating on transfer opportunities

    The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) and the Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) are bringing together nearly 175 educators from across the state to discuss transfer opportunities for KCTCS students. Transfer Summit 2.0 will be Wednesday at the KCTCS System Office in Versailles and involves the state’s universities as well as KCTCS colleges.
