    BESSONS
    Freed Hardeman University has released the names of students who made the President’s List for Spring 2016. Two Harrison County students were on the list.
    To be on the President’s List, a student must be full-time and have a 4.0 grade point average. Two students from Cynthiana achieved this distinction: Abby Besson, a senior communication public relations major; and Sarah Ruth Besson, a sophomore special education major.

    WIGGINS
    Bailey Wiggins of Cynthiana received a bachelor’s degree with a major in Biology at the Commencement Service on Sunday, May 8 at Berea College.
    After graduating, Wiggins plans on working with Bluegrass Retina Consultants, where she has recently accepted a position.

    BESSON
    A Cynthiana student was among the approximately 250 graduates who received degrees Saturday, May 14, at Freed-Hardeman University. Graduate degrees in a variety of fields were conferred on 51 students. Almost 200 students were awarded baccalaureate degrees.
    Abby Besson graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in communication and public relations.

  • Kindergarten here I come -- reading, match readiness program offered

    A new reading and math readiness program is being instituted this summer by the Harrison County Board of Education for parents and 2016-17 kindergarten students.
    The program will consist of three one-day sessions on Tuesday, June 21, Wednesday, July 13 and Monday, August 1.
     All three sessions will begin at 8 a.m. and will conclude at 12 noon. Lunch for students and parents will be provided.
    All students who participate in all three sessions will be eligible for a bicycle drawing at the conclusion of the last session.

  • Masonic Lodge donates bicycles

    The 103-member strong St. Andrews Masonic Lodge #18 donated one bicycle to Southside Elementary School and one to Northside Elementary School for a student with exemplary attendance. Southside winner, second grader Keylee Custard who has had perfect attendance during her two years at Southside. She is the daughter of James and Tara Custard. To her left is Lodge member Grady Lawson and to her right is Master of the Lodge, Jim Plummer Jr. Northside winner Cameron Perry, fifth grade,  has six years perfect attendance. He is the son of James and Brandy Franklin.
