  • Bluegrass PRIDE to sponsor concert in September

    Bluegrass PRIDE (Personal Responsibility In a Desirable Environment) has announced that it will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a concert featuring bluegrass bands JD Crowe and the New South and Balsam Range. Sponsored by Toyota and G&J Pepsi-Cola Bottlers, Inc., the Bluegrass Concert for Bluegrass PRIDE will be held Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall on the University of Kentucky campus. Tickets are $20 and are available at www.bgPRIDE.org.

  • HMH's Clinic plans to open in late August in Walmart

    Harrison Memorial Hospital has moved one step further toward providing seamless health care within the community by opening The Clinic at Walmart inside the Walmart store in Cynthiana. The walk-in clinic, which is operated by the professionals at Harrison Memorial Hospital, will provide basic healthcare services seven days a week, with no appointment necessary. The walk-in health clinic is the first-owned and operated by Harrison Memorial Hospital in a Walmart.

    The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) has contracted with AdvancED®, parent company of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI), to provide a Web-based school and district improvement planning framework and management system beginning in the 2012-13 school year.

    Members of Blue Grass Energy now have access to the most up-to-date weather maps and storm alerts on their iPads.
    WKYT-TV (Channel 27)’s state-of-the-art FirstAlert DEFENDER radar recently became available through an application or ‘app’ that can be downloaded to iPads via a WKYT Weather app. The weather-specific iPad app is a first for any Kentucky television station.
    It’s available now in the iTunes app store, or it can be downloaded at www.wkyt.com/weather.

    Harrison County Circuit Court Clerk Kathy Kearns participated in the 2011 Circuit Clerks Summer College held June 14-16 in Florence, Ky.
    The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Division of Driver Licensing, sponsored the event and provided training on fraudulent documents, driver education programs and services available through the Division of Driver Licensing’s field offices.

    CSM Malone graduated Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Knox, Ky. He entered active duty on Feb. 21, 1985.
    His first permanent duty assignment was at Fort Carson, Colo. as a self-propelled field artillery mechanic. His assignments included duties as squad leader, recovery chief, shop foreman, platoon sergeant, battery motor sergeant, battalion motor sergeant, senior drill sergeant, battalion operations sergeant, first sergeant, brigade motor sergeant, III Corp artillery G-4 maintenance NCOIC, and battalion CSM.

  • Citifinancial changes name, celebration event planned for Saturday

    On July 1, the CitiFinancial office located at 105 Lawson Drive, Georgetown, Ky., will change its name to OneMain Financial.
    Carl B. Hackney, branch manager, indicates the name change will not impact the products and services customers have come to know and appreciate, stating “we’ll continue to work with each customer, one-on-one, to find a loan option that’s right for them and be here when they need us. The new name better fits who we are and what we do.”

  • Wedco to host NPHPSP July 14 along with local health systems

    Public health systems partners from Harrison County will gather on July 14 to participate in the National Public Health Performance Standards Program (NPHPSP). The program includes partners from hospitals, schools, fire and police departments, faith communities, parks and recreation, mental health providers, private physicians, social service agencies, and other interested citizens. Wedco District Health Department will be conducting the program from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Harrison County Health Center, 364 Oddville Ave., Cynthiana.
