• Curves waives joining fee for new members during October

    October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Curves continues to work to raise awareness in women about the life-saving importance of risk management, early detection and treatment.  Throughout the month, Curves of Cynthiana on U.S. 27 South, including those listed below, are waiving the joining fee for new members who show proof of a mammogram within the past year or make a $25 donation to breast cancer research.

  • Cynthiana Rotary Club to sponsor Black Friday raffle

    The Cynthiana Rotary Club announces the Black Friday raffle.  
    Members of the club will be selling tickets for a chance to win a $250 or a $1,000 WalMart gift card. Two winners will be drawn, buy one ticket and have two chances to win.
    Winners will be drawn at the club’s regular meeting on Thursday, Nov. 17 at noon at Biancke’s.
    Tickets are $5 each. See a Rotarian to purchase tickets.
    Proceeds will be used to help fund the many things that the club does for the  community.

  • Kentucky Country Music Association coming to Harrison County

    The Ky Country Music Association (KCMA) has announced that it will be hosting its annual state competition and awards show in Harrison County on Saturday Oct. 15.
    The Kentucky Country Music Association is a major stepping stone for aspiring Kentucky musicians.For many years the KCMA has helped launch the careers of many country, gospel and bluegrass musicians young and old.

  • Annual Saturday in Carlisle festival to be held Sept. 24

    Saturday in Carlisle plans have come together for this fall, and the annual festival, right in the center of The Little Town with the Big Heart, will take place Sept. 24.
    The Carlisle Rotary Club, Whitaker Bank of Carlisle, Woodmen of the World, the Carlisle Courier, and Attorney Peter Newberry are sponsoring another day of fun and activities along Main Street and in and around the Nicholas County Courthouse yard for the entire family.
    More than 50 vendor booths will be open throughout the day.

  • Audit released for Harrison County Sheriff’s Office

    State Auditor Crit Luallen has released the audit of the 2010 financial statement of the Harrison County Sheriff, Bruce Hampton. State law requires the Auditor to annually audit the accounts of each county sheriff. In compliance with this law, the Auditor issues two sheriffs reports each year: one reporting on the audit of the sheriff’s tax account and the other reporting on the audit of the fee account used to operate the office.

  • Harrison County Clerk’s audit released

    State Auditor Crit Luallen has released the audit of the 2010 financial statement of Harrison County Clerk, Linda Furnish. State law requires the Auditor to conduct annual audits of county clerks and sheriffs.
    The audit found that the Clerk’s financial statement presents fairly the revenues, expenditures, and excess fees of the Harrison County Clerk in conformity with the regulatory basis of accounting.
