  • Wedco to host NPHPSP July 14 along with local health systems

    Public health systems partners from Harrison County will gather on July 14 to participate in the National Public Health Performance Standards Program (NPHPSP). The program includes partners from hospitals, schools, fire and police departments, faith communities, parks and recreation, mental health providers, private physicians, social service agencies, and other interested citizens. Wedco District Health Department will be conducting the program from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Harrison County Health Center, 364 Oddville Ave., Cynthiana.

  • HMH opens Harrison Heart Catheterization Lab

    Harrison Memorial Hospital expanded cardiology services by opening Harrison Heart Catheterization Lab.
    Heart disease is very prevalent in Harrison County and the surrounding areas. Because of the prevalence, HMH recruited an interventional cardiologist in 2007, Dr. Nezar Falluji, and applied for a certificate of need for a heart catheterization lab in late 2008.
    On April 27, Harrison Memorial Hospital received approval of the certificate of need from the state of Kentucky to open the Harrison Heart Catheterization Lab.

  • Scholarships awarded at annual Blue Grass Energy meeting

    Blue Grass Energy members were welcomed to the Keeneland Entertainment Center in Lexington with blue skies and warm temperatures for the cooperative’s annual membership meeting on June 2. Nearly 650 members and their families – more than 1,300 people – gathered for food, entertainment, exhibits and a business meeting.
    Just before the business meeting began, the West Jessamine High School choir performed the National Anthem and Boy Scout Troop 37 from Lawrenceburg presented the Unites States of America and Kentucky state flags.

  • Licking Valley Dental Associates welcomes Dr. Kerns to the staff

    Dr. James S. Clyde and members of the Licking Valley Dental Associates team welcome Harrison County’s own Dr. Christopher Kerns to the staff beginning June 1.
    Kerns will serve as the primary dentist on staff for the upcoming year under the guidance of Dr. Clyde.
    Kerns is a graduate of Morehead State University and the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and is a product of the Harrison County High School class of 2001.

Commodore won this statewide award over other nurses nominated from nursing facilities, hospitals, physician offices and hospice organizations.

  • Blue Grass Energy invites members to annual meeting June 2

    Blue Grass Energy invites its member-owners to the 2011 annual meeting on June 2 at the Keeneland Entertainment Center.
    Registration begins at 4:30 p.m., and the business meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. The entrance to the Keeneland Entertainment Center is directly across from Man O’ War Boulevard and Blue Grass Airport, at 4201 Versailles Road in Lexington.
    At the business meeting, co-op officials will review the 2010 business operations, and members will also hear about issues affecting the electric co-op industry today.
