• Marie H. Snopek, 99

    Marie H. Snopek, 99, died peacefully surrounded by family at her home on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012.
    She was born Nov. 14, 1912 in Scranton, Penn.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Snopek and her parents, Thomas and Anna Gingleski.  
    Survivors include: her son, Donald (Barbara) Snopek; grandchildren, Chris (Carla) Snopek and Stacey (Clif) Marshall; and five great-grandchildren, Kate Russell Snopek, Christopher Snopek, Lydia Snopek, John Whit Snopek and Mary Grace Marshall.

  • Earl F. Matthews, 92

    Earl F. Matthews, 92, husband of Mildred Eileen Thomas Cornett Matthews, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012 at his home.
    He was born March 21, 1919 in Harrison County, Ky., the son of the late Richard Raymond Matthews and Gertrude B. Fightmaster Matthews. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was held as a POW for 14 months in Germany during World War II.  He was employed for over 21 years in electronics engineering at the University of Kentucky and was of the Christian faith.

  • Anna L. Smith, 73

    Anna L. Smith, 73, Madisonville, formerly of Harrison County, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at her residence with her children by her side.
    She was born in Harrison County, April 30, 1938, to the late Charles O. and Ruth Lee Smith. She was a retired Walmart employee.
    She was preceded in death by a brother, Elbert Joe Smith and a sister, Charlotte Lamere.
    Survivors include: three sons, Nathan (Elisa) Hill, Cynthiana, Zachary (Sasha) Fight and Christopher Fight, both of Madisonville; a daughter, Ruthanna (Terry) Brayboy, Lexington; and seven grandchildren.

  • Janet Lynn Pelkey, 54

    Janet Lynn Pelkey, 54, Cynthiana, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    She was the daughter of Douglas and Lida Bea Skirvin Charles of Mt. Sterling.  
    She is survived by six sons.
    Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. at Ware Funeral Home by Jason Adams. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery.

  • J B Ritchie Jr., 55

    J B Ritchie Jr., 55, Berry, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington.
    He was the son of J B and Marjorie Jane Dennis Ritchie of Cynthiana.
    He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kayla Jean Ritchie.
    Survivors include: his wife, Vicky Casey Ritchie; a stepson, Jimmy Ellis Barnes, Cynthiana; and a stepdaughter, Tracie (Gregg) Barnes, Cynthiana.
    Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 19 at Ware Funeral Home. Burial was at the convenience of the family.

  • Martin Clay Garnett, 55

    Martin Clay Garnett, 55, son of Woody and Gloria “Betty” Garnett, was born Oct. 12, 1956 and died on Feb. 6, 2012.
    He enjoyed life and talking to his many friends, riding his motorcycles and loved to listen to Elvis Presley. One of his favorite songs was “My Way.” He worked at Dix Associates in Lexington for 35 years. One of his favorite quotes was “Marty is Marty.”
    Garnett will be remembered and followed by a family of friends. A memorial service will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17 at Ware Funeral Home.

  • Larry Allen Frederick, 76

    Larry Allen Frederick, 76, Cynthiana, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    He was born on Jan. 19, 1936, to the late James and Dorothy Fryman Frederick. He was a truck driver for Estes Trucking and a member of Robinson Christian Church.
    He was preceded in death by two brothers, John David Frederick and Jerry Frederick, and a sister, Peggy Frederick.

  • Ruth Elizabeth Furnish, 92

    Ruth Elizabeth Furnish, 92, of Cynthiana, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    She was the daughter of the late William Robert and Bertha Courtney Furnish.
    A memorial services will be held at a later date.
    Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

  • Juanita Faye Stroub, 80

    Juanita Faye Stroub, 80, of Falmouth, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at the River Valley Nursing Home in Butler.
    She was the daughter of the late John and Edna Mae McClain Bishop.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Stroub.
    Survivors include: one son, Garnett Autry Slade of Colorado.
    Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 15 at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with the Rev. Douglas Beard officiating. Burial was in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry.

  • Kenneth T. Burns, 86

    Kenneth T. Burns, 86, of Cynthiana, Ky.. died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at Cedar Ridge Health Campus.
    He was born in Bourbon County, Ky., May 27, 1925, to the late William Taylor and Mary Day Burns. He was a farmer and member of Unity Christian Church where he served as Elder and Deacon for over 40 years, was a retired honorably discharged Army veteran of the Korean War. Other memberships include Beef Cattle Association, former President of the  National Farmers Organization, VFW Frankfort Post #4075, and received an Honorary Korean War High School diploma.
