    Catherine Allison Hollar, 97, widow of Hisel R. Hollar, died Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Johnson-Mathers Nursing Home.
    She was born Feb. 9, 1915 in Nicholas County to the late Charles and Addie Green Allison. She was a retired employee of Allison’s Catering and a member of Saltwell United Methodist Church.

  • James Rennick Bowles, 42

    James Rennick Bowles, 42, died Friday, March 16, 2012 at UK-Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington.
    He was the son of Donald and Betty Gaunce Bowles of Cynthiana.
    Services will be Tuesday, March 20 at 1 p.m. at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home with burial in the Carlisle Cemetery.

  • Dan P. Hedges, 67

    Dan P. Hedges, 67, of Mt. Olivet, Ky., died Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky.
    Survivors include: his wife, Peggy Hale; and two daughters, Susan Fish of Waverly, Ohio, and Becky Schalch of Mt. Olivet.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Melbourne and Imogene.
    A memorial was held Monday, March 19 at the Robertson County Funeral Home with Bro. Dee Whitaker officiating.  There was no graveside service.

  • Atlee E. Whitaker, 66

    Atlee E. Whitaker, 66, of Cynthiana, died Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky.
    He was born in Harrison County, Ky., May 23, 1945, to the late William C. and Ruby Esther Moore Whitaker.
    He was preceded in death by three brothers, Gary Whitaker, Randall Whitaker and Glenn Whitaker.
    Survivors include: one brother, Dale Whitaker of North Carolina; and one sister, Kay Yates of Alabama.
    Services were held Tuesday, March 13 at Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home by the Rev. Bobby Stone, with burial in Battle Grove Cemetery.

  • Virginia Rose Beach, 50

    Virginia Rose Beach, 50, Cynthiana, died March 11, 2012 at her residence.
    She was born in Campbell County, May 11, 1961 to Melvin and Mary Goins Jenkins of Cynthiana. She was a bus monitor for the Harrison County Board of Education for 15 years and a member of Flour Creek Christian Church in Butler.
    She was preceded in death by two sons, Allan Warner and David Warner.  

  • Rita Faye Fryman Moore, 50

    Rita Faye Fryman Moore, 50, Cynthiana, died Monday, March 12, 2012 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    She was born in Harrison County, Feb. 11, 1962 to the late Harlan and Mary Katherine Ritchie Fryman.
    She was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Mae Fryman and Donna Lynn Fryman.

  • Mary E. Whitaker Lowe, 94

    Mary E. Whitaker Lowe, 94, who spent 38 years joyfully teaching public school third graders, died in her sleep early Thursday, March 8, 2012 in her apartment at Morning Pointe senior care center.
     Mary Elizabeth, also known as “Libby,” was fiercely independent until breaking a hip 18 months ago. She stopped driving and subsequently learned to accept aid from many people, as she weakened physically in a decade-plus fight with congestive heart disease. In mind and spirit she was feisty to the last day.

  • Garnett C. Smiley, 82

    Garnett C. Smiley, 82, of Cynthiana, died Thursday, March 8, 2012, at his residence.
    He was born in Harrison County, Ky., Nov. 22, 1929, to the late Clarence and Elsie Fryman Smiley. He was a member of Robinson Chrisitan Church, a retired farmer and an honorably discharged Army veteran of the Korean Conflict where he received a Bronze Star.
    He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wendell Smiley and Lowell Smiley.

  • Michael Paul Spedden, 68

    Michael Paul Spedden, 68, Cynthiana, died Friday, March 9, 2012 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
    He was born in Baltimore City, Md., Jan. 22, 1944, to the late Daniel Edward Spedden and Clara Stella Prutznel. He was a retired Bell South employee and a United States Navy Vietnam veteran.
    He was preceded in death by a special friend, Grace Metcalf.

  • Anna Russell Faulconer, 98

    Anna Russell Faulconer, 98, of Cynthiana, Ky., died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Cedar Ridge Healthcare Campus.
    She was born in Harrison County, Ky., Oct. 16, 1913, to the late Jesse Henry and Caroline Swinford Faulconer. She was a member of Cynthiana Christian Church.
    Survivors include: one sister, Georgia Schmidt; two nephews, Gene (Frannie) Faulconer and John (Sherry) Faulconer; one niece, Leigh Ann (Chuck) Jackson; several great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews.
