    Harrison County Water Association is asking for voluntary water conservation. Four of the county’s 10 water towers were either very low or out of water over the Memorial Day weekend.

  • There are some plants that demand good drainage:  taxus, coreopsis, gaillardia and penstemon, to name a few. I have lost them all because they were poorly sited in the garden but now that I know where water is slow to drain, I know where to plant those trees, shrubs and perennials that like wet environments.  
    There is an upside to poor drainage for some plants, just be sure that water is available when Mother Nature doesn’t deliver.

  • Annsley Marie Philpot
    Annsley Marie Philpot was born to Jeremy and Laurie Philpot of Cynthiana on April 12, 2017 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    She weighed 7 lbs. 8 oz., and is welcomed by her brother Solomon Dale Philpot.
    Maternal grandparents are Jewel Major of Cynthiana and Richard Major of Millersburg, Ky.; maternal great-grandparents are Doris Whalen and the late Freddie Whalen, and the late Rose and Dallas Major.

  • The Cynthiana Chapter NSDAR met at the home of Betsey Clyde on May 20.
    Due to the illness of Regent Kesterson’s husband, Dixie Solomon officiated as Acting Regent and brought the meeting to order.
    The DAR Ritual, the Pledge of Allegiance, Preamble to the Constitution, and The American’s Creed were recited.
    Jean Ellen Melton, mentor for the Cynthiana chapter, sat in on the meeting. Minutes of the April 8 meeting were read and approved.

  • The Harrison County Board of Education is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
    Meals will be provided, at a first come, first serve basis, at the following sites and times:
    • River Road Ball Park, May 30-Aug. 4, Monday-Friday from 12-12:30 p.m.
    • Berry City Park, May 30-Aug. 4, Monday-Friday from 12-12:30 p.m.
