  • My neighboring vendor at the Belknap Farmers’ Market, Janet Haggerty, shared some little cherry tomatoes with me last week that came from a stray seedling. The little tomatoes where a dull yellow and about the size of a gooseberry.  They were fantastic.
    I remember meeting a woman at the State Fair years ago that brought in a similar bag of tiny tomatoes. She said the plants were popping up here and there in the garden, not like anything she had ever planted.

  • Ale and Jan Turner announce the marriage of their son, Eric Alen Turner, to Samantha Frances Hawtrey, daughter of Tom and Claire Hawtrey of Union, Ky.
    The wedding took place at Ashland Avenue Baptist Church in Lexington, Ky., on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 3 p.m. Pastor David Prince performed the double-ring ceremony.
    The matron of honor was Hannah Calkins. Bridesmaids were Jane Sollberger, Collyn Morgan, Kathleen Bell, Abie White, Elaine Flynn, Laura Ebert, Abby Evans, and Olivia Evans.

  • Tatum Leigh Poynter was born to Darlene and Larry Poynter of Cynthiana on Aug. 10, 2015 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    She weighed 6 lbs. 1 oz., and is welcomed by her brothers, Shaun and Steven and sister Toshia.
    Maternal grandparents are Granville and Dicie Brewer.
    Paternal grandparents are Doug and Joyce Poynter.

  • Jerry and Ann Brunker celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Aug. 6, by crossing the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Calif. Before leaving for California, they were honored with dinners by friends and on June 25, a party celebration by their family and friends of Cynthiana.
    The couple was united in marriage by Bro. James B. Smith on Aug. 6, 1965 at Salem Church of Christ.
    Jerry is the son of Mary Lois Brunker and the late Leo Brunker.
    Ann is the daughter of Ruby Lou Dailey McCauley and the late Roscoe H. McCauley.

  • Eddie and Cheryl Persinger will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 28. The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. on Aug. 28 at Milford Christian Church grounds, Milford, Ky.

    The descendants of George Lewis (1844-1923), and Mary William Ritchie Mulligan (1850-1943) will hold their annual reunion on Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Harrison County Fairgrounds, 4-H building. The reunion will start at 10 a.m. with a potluck meal at 12:30 p.m. Bring covered dishes, canned goods for food pantry and items for auction.

  • Aletha Thomas of Mount Olivet was recently selected to participate in the 2015 Miss Teen pageant competition that will take place on Sunday, Aug. 30.
    Thomas learned of her acceptance into this year’s competition when the pageant announced their selections following interviewing in the local Preliminary area. Thomas submitted an application and took part in an interview session.
