  • All in all we have had a decent summer with reasonable temperatures and adequate rainfall. I think the marker for the summer of 2014 can go to the weeds!  
    So as you address some fall weeding chores you may also want to do a little preening to give some of your annuals and perennials a facelift for fall.
    As we descend into fall, annuals and perennials will rebound but first we need to get rid of the old, ragged growth.

  • The parents of Staci L. Knight and Andrew L. Hinton announce the upcoming marriage of their children on Sept. 20, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Leesburg Christian Church.
    The parents of Staci are Marlane K.  Linville of Cynthiana and Gregory T. Knight (Connie) of Sardina, Ohio. She is the granddaughter of Patricia L. Linville of Cynthiana and the late Marvin E. Linville, and the late Milton C. and Ann Knight of Cynthiana.

  • The Licking Valley Business and Professional Women (LVBPW) is seeking nominations for three awards that are given locally and will also be presented to the State.
    Local awards will be given during a luncheon held in October 2014.
    The three awards are: Woman of Achievement, Woman of the Year, and Business Equity.

  • Jaxson Carter Dailey was born to Donovan Dailey and Brittany Unger of Cynthiana on Aug. 31, 2014 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    He weighed 9 lbs.
    Maternal grandparents are Billy Unger of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandparents are Bill and Donna Rawlings.
    Paternal grandparents are Walter and April Kamick and Richard and Julie Dailey, all of Cynthiana.

  • FOOKS/FRENCH
    The Fooks/French reunion will be held Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Claysville Christian Church shelter. A potluck lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. Plates, utensils and meat will be furnished. Please bring drinks, lawn chairs, old and new photos.

    TEALS-DENNIS
    The descendants of Sherman and Lucille Teals and John and Laura Dennis will hold their family reunion on Saturday, Sept. 20 at noon at the Unity Christian Church shelter for a potluck meal.
    Plates, cups, silverware and drinks provided. Bring pictures and stories to share.

  • Norma Chamberlin will celebrate her 80th birthday on Sunday, Sept. 21 in Faith Hall at Faith Baptist Church.  The celebration will be held from 2-4 p.m.
    All friends, relatives and former students are invited to attend this event.
    The church is located at 332 Old Paris Pike, Cynthiana.

    Births announced this week are: Katie Gaye Clough, June 28, daughter of Montie and Lynette Clough; Dylan Thomas Duckworth, July 18, son of Dale and Lori Duckworth; Garylee Martin Gooden, June 29, son of  Laura Gooden; Kaley Elizabeth Robinson, July 15, daughter of Glen and Jennifer Robinson.
    Harrison Memorial Hospital welcomes its new FMC Dialysis of Cynthiana facility. Patients can now undergo treatments in Cynthiana at the location in Harrison Square.

  • The Woman’s Club of Harrison County met Friday, Sept. 12 at Hospice of the Bluegrass to open the 2014-2015 season.
    Anna Ruth McLoney, president, welcomed members and guests then led the Pledge of Allegiance. McLoney called for a minute of silence to commemorate the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and to honor all the men and women who serve our country.

    Chalk It Up.
    Thursday, Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m. All ages are invited to come as chalk will be used to play all types of games and create own artwork. Program will take place in the basement of the Cynthiana Presbyterian Church. Pre-registration is appreciated.
    Berry City Commission will meet Thursday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m., at Berry City Hall. The meetings are open to the public.
