  • * It is a time of the year when we honor our veterans, our current graduates, our country, our alumni, our United States flag, our schools, our beautiful country. We have so much for which to be thankful. Include a visit to the Cynthiana-Harrison County Museum in your activities and in your gratitude.

  • Powdery mildew is probably the most common garden fungus around.  
    It is not too terribly picky about where it spreads, it likes humid weather, thrives in the heat of the summer and is hard to control once it has started.  
    The trick here is to prevent it from happening by proper plant selection, spacing, pruning and treatment before it spreads.
    Powdery mildew is caused by several different fungi, I won’t bore you with their names because they all act the same way.

    I used to live in the mountains of North Carolina. One day I was clearing a path near our home in the woods. I had a shovel, an axe, a weed eater, and some hedge clippers. I was wacking a path through the woods to make what I called my “prayer path.”

    Historical Society. The Harrison County Historical Society will conduct its monthly meeting on Thursday, June 19 at 7 p.m. in the Charles W. Feix Community Room. Officers elections will be held. Speaker will be Bill Penn on the Second Civil War Battle of Cynthiana.

    Maybe you’ve heard the Southern saying, “If Mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.”

    It’s one of my favorite sayings. First of all, I like saying ain’t. (It makes me happy.)

    Come and enjoy an evening of music, fellowship and refreshments at Mt. Carmel Church, US 27 S. near the Bourbon County line, on Saturday, June 28 at 6:30 p.m.
    Cindy Hill and the Connersville Singers will be presenting a musical program, along with Carol and Bill Hyatt and others. Everyone is invited to enjoy some great music and refreshments as we fellowship together.
