    The Cynthiana Baptist Church family welcomes their new Interim Pastor, the Rev. John Withers of Lexington, Ky. Withers was recently called to Cynthiana Baptist Church and will be filling the pulpit until a full time senior pastor is called.

    Withers was born in Cynthiana to Otis and Della Withers. He married Carol McDonald, also of Cynthiana.  They have three sons, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

  • Madalynn Kanance Martin

    Madalynn Kanance Martin was born to Nitosha Pickett and Travis Martin of Cynthiana on Dec. 11, 2008 at Central Baptist Hospital. She weighed 9 lbs. 4.2 oz.

    Maternal grandparents are Pamela Baxter and Darrell Baxter of Cynthiana, and Kevin Pickett of Sadieville, Ky.; maternal great-grandparents are Marcella Scudder and Paul Jones of Corinth, Ky., Mary Jo Pickett of Lexington, Ky., and Gordon Pickett of Corinth; great-great-grandmother is Ruth Rumo of Lima, Ohio.

  • 64th anniversary of Iwo Jima ceremonies

    planned for Feb. 22

    The 64th anniversary of Iwo Jima will be held at the VFW Post in Flemingsburg, Ky. on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. Ceremonies honoring PFC Franklin R. Sousley, USMCR (KIA) will be held at the Elizaville Cemetery, Elizaville, Ky. at 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

  • * Cynthiana Democrat, July 26, 1917 - “Today is Patriotic Day for the Knights of Pythias and will be celebrated in some form by every lodge of that order in the country. At Cynthiana there will be music, a parade, and an address by the Hon. Kimball of Lexington. The parade will start promptly at 1:30 o’clock from in front of the court house and will pass through the principal streets down town. The speaking will be in front of the court house at 2:30 o’clock.

    Food Sale

    Ebenezer United Methodist Church will host a food sale on March 7 at 10 a.m.

    Homemade chili, crackers and pimento cheese sandwich, ice tea for $3; or bean soup and cornbread, ice tea for $3.

    The event is sponsored by the UMM and UMW.

    Harrison County Historical Society will meet Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. The speaker will be Melissa Jurgenson who will discuss her new book, River Towns of Central KY.  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

  • James Joshua Muntz

    James Joshua Muntz was born to Eric and Julie Muntz of Fort Thomas on Feb. 6, 2009, at Bethesda Hospital North in Cincinnati. He weighed 7 lbs., 15 oz., and is welcomed by his sister, Becca Muntz.

    Maternal grandparents are Dan and Debbie Mullikin of New Richmond, Ohio.

    Paternal grandparents are Lewis and Cathy Muntz of Cynthiana.
