    Harrison County Historical Society will meet Thursday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. at Wayne Stafford’s log cabin. Stafford will give a tour of the cabin which is located behind his home at 1432 Dutch Chapel Rd. Please bring a lawn chair.  Directions to the cabin are: take KY Hwy 36 W. about 6 miles to Breckinridge and turn right on Dutch Chapel Road. Proceed approximately 1.5 miles to the gravel drive on the right. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

  • Levi Gibson Carr

     

    Levi Gibson Carr was born to Jason and Tabitha Carr of Cynthiana on July 1, 2009 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. He weighed 7 lbs. 15 oz.

  • Ample rainfall and mild temperatures this year means we can get planting sooner then later. Sure, we plant trees all year round as long as we can get the shovel in the ground but normally planting this time results I a little stress due to high heat and lots of water hauling. Finally an easy year.

  • The Farm Service Agency in Kentucky reminds producers of the deadlines for enrolling in the new Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) Program or the Direct and Counter-Cyclical Program (DCP). The deadline to enroll in ACRE or DCP for 2009 is Aug. 14, 2009.

    ACRE is an innovative alternative to the traditional farm safety net, but this new program comes with a complex signup process. Producers should contact their local office to set up appointments well before the Aug. 14, 2009 deadline.

  • * Cynthiana Democrat, March 18, 1909 - “Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1909, Cynthiana was practically cut off from all points in the country, except those reached by rail. The small streams overflowed everywhere, flooding the turnpikes and making them impassable at a number of points. Man to Claysville and intervening places was delayed from the preceding Saturday until Thursday. AD traffic was blocked.”

    The annual Craig-Stewart-Cleaver reunion will be held Aug. 30 at Blue Licks State Resort Park. A potluck meal will be served at 1 p.m. at the lower shelter house.

    HCHS BAND ALUMNI

    All former and present Harrison County band members, parents, instructors, and families are invited to attend the first Harrison County Band Alumni reunion.

    Tenative date is scheduled for the first home football game on Friday, Sept. 4.

    Berry City Commission will meet Thursday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m., at Berry City Hall. The meetings are open to the public.

    Adult Book Club. The club will meet Thursday, Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. in the Feix Community Room at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. Refreshments will be provided.

    Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Friday, Aug. 14 at Grand Haven from 3-4 p.m.

  • ANTIOCH MILLS CHRISTIAN

    Donations are being accepted for used toys and clothing for Antioch’s Clothing Closet designed to help out families in our communities that are in need.

    Youth services on each Wednesday night for K-12 from 7 to 8.

    Back-to-School lock-in for K-5 youth will be held on Aug. 14-15 from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.  No cost and plenty of food and fun.
