  • Barry Sims, County Executive Director of the Harrison County Farm Service Agency announces that Ricci Roland has been re-elected to serve a three year term on the Farm Service Agency Committee. His term of office began on Jan. 1, 2010. Mike Stroub will serve as chairperson, Roland will serve as vice chairperson, Thomas Florence Jr. as regular member, and Freda Custard, COC Advisor.

    The Farm Service Agency Committee is responsible for the administration of various Federal Farm programs including Price Support, Conservation and Farm Loan Programs.

  • Once again I am proud to say that our potato crop lasted from March 2009 to March 2010. It’s time to start it all over again, thank goodness. I am really ready to get my hands in the soil, once it dries out a bit. First thing first:  while I always shoot for a mid-March planting of selected seed potatoes we must consider the condition of the soil.  Don’t start digging if the soil is too wet. Be patient and only work once the soil is friable.

    The Harrison County Extension Office will be sponsoring a Vegetable Production meeting on Thursday, March 11, 7 p.m. at the Extension Office.

    This meeting is open to anyone interested in vegetable gardening. If you have a small garden in your backyard, or you will be growing vegetables to sell at the local Farmer’s Market or you are interested in growing commercial vegetables, this will be an excellent opportunity for you.

    Elijah Lee Smith was born to Justin and Tiffanie Smith on Jan. 22, 2010 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. He weighed 5 lbs. 12 oz.

    Berry City Commission will meet Thursday, March 11 at 7 p.m., at Berry City Hall. The meetings are open to the public.

    Women’s Book Club selection for the month of March is The Yada Yada Prayer Group by Neta Jackson. The book is available for pick-up at the front desk of the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. Meeting is Thursday, March 11 at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

    Cynthiana Board of Adjustment will not meet Thursday, March 11 due to no items on the agenda.
