    Occasionally I run into a man I’ll call Bob. I’m not sure how old he is or what he does for a living, only that he has a steady job — with insurance and benefits. He has all his own teeth, doesn’t live in his parents’ basement, has a reliable vehicle and a good sense of humor.

    Cynthiana Presbyterian Church will host their two-day Vacation Bible School beginning Sunday, July 31 with a kick-off party and registration (weather permitting) at 3 p.m. If it rains, registration will begin at 5 p.m.
    Sunday night’s VBS will end at 7:30 p.m. The final day will be Monday, Aug. 1 from 8:30 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Snacks and meals will be provided. The theme will be “The Exodus: A VBS Event.” Everyone is welcome.


  • THURSDAY, July 28
    Adult Summer Reading Program. The winner of the Nook for the adult summer reading program will be announced on Thursday, July 28.

    FRIDAY, July 29
    Craft Day. Friday, July 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or while craft supplies last. Mix and Match Craft Day in the children's library at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. All ages are welcome.

    The Cummins-Anderson reunion will be held Sunday, Aug. 7 at Antioch Mills Christian Church. Utensils, plates, cups and drinks provided. The potluck meal will be served at 1 p.m.

    The annual reunion of the late Harley Earlywine and his siblings, Richard Earlywine, Dora Earlywine Reeves, Jesse Newton Earlywine, James Daniel Earlywine, Roy D. Earlywine, Sally Ethel Earlywine Whirles and Amanda Earlywine Mynear will be held Sunday, Aug. 14 at Blue Licks State Park at the large shelter.

  • Cameron Fryman, along with his grandparents, James and Tammy Fryman of Cynthiana, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of his mother, Brandi Autumn Fryman, to Randall Alan McVey, son of Glen and Mary Abney of Paris, Ky.
    Fryman is a 2002 graduate of Harrison County High School and received her photography certificate from the New York Institute of Photography in 2007. She is employed as a receptionist at Dan Cummins Chevrolet in Paris.
    McVey is a 1986 graduate of Woodford County High School. He is employed as the produce manager at Ken’s in Paris.

  • Kendall Brooke Perraut was born to Brad and Tiffany Perraut of Castle Rock, Colo. on May 21, 2011 at SkyRidge Medical Center in Lone Tree, Colo. She weighed 6 lbs. 12 oz., and is welcomed by her brother Connor Perraut.
    Maternal grandparents are Billy and Diane Hicks.
    Paternal grandparents are Daryl and Charlotte Perraut and Billy and Betty Kearns.
    Great-grandparents are Bill Hicks, Ruby Moses, Ruth Ann Perraut, Ann Chamblian, and Marion and Wanda Zumwalt.

  • Summertime is when there are the most reported cases of food poisoning and stomach distress. One of the reasons could come from improper handling of meats. Make sure you’re keeping your family safe from harmful bacteria when grilling meat and poultry.
    Cross-contamination is how bacteria can be spread. Improper handling of raw meat, poultry and seafood can create an inviting environment for cross-contamination. As a result, harmful bacteria can spread to food and throughout the kitchen.
