  • Thanks to the miracle of my DVR, I just finished watching “The Bible” miniseries that ran on the History Channel for several weeks before Easter.
    I wasn’t sure how I’d like it — I was afraid it would be filled with rewritten theological untruths. But it stayed true to the biblical text.
    I especially loved the angels. No wimpy, girly-men with white dresses and wings. These were big, tough, Ninja warriors who took armies of the enemies of God’s people and crushed them.
    Hooray, God!

  • Elizabeth Joy Serhal, daughter of Al and Patty Serhal of Forston, Ga., and Duncan Tyler Bell, son of Justin and Connie Bell, announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.
    The wedding will take place May 18, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. at Grace Christian Church, Georgetown, Ky. The reception will follow at the home of Sherry and Steve Judy, aunt and uncle of the groom in Cynthiana, Ky. Formal invitations have been sent.
    Serhal is a 2012 graduate of Kentucky Christian University with a major in education. She is employed with Hands on Originals in Lexington.

  • Pam Whalen and the late Bobby Whalen announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Tracy Whalen, to Steven Galde, son of Karen and Brad Galde. The wedding will take place May 25, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. at Union Baptist Church. The reception will follow at the Elks Lodge.
    Whalen and Galde are both graduates of Harrison County High School.
    Whalen is employed by Community Action Council in Cynthiana. She is the granddaughter of the late Nevel and Adenna Williams, and Birdie Whalen and the late Elbert (Hub) Whalen.

  • The Harrison Memorial Hospital (HMH) Auxiliary held its annual Spring volunteer luncheon on Friday, April 19. Thirty members attended the event. Featured guest speakers were HMH Ears, Nose and Throat Specialist Dr. Dan Mongiardo and HMH Physical Therapist Paul Horne. They discussed dizziness and the newly established vestibular/balance clinic offered at HMH.    

  • Gracie Ann Hicks was born to Brittany Lynn Perry and Brandon Scott Hicks of Berry, Ky., on March 22, 2013 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    She weighed 6 lbs. 11 oz.
    Maternal grandparents are Michael and Phyllis Perry of Berry.
    Paternal grandparents are Dawn Fairchild and Kevin Hicks.

  • ODDVILLE SCHOOL
    The annual Oddville Alumni dinner will be held May 25 at the Cynthiana Christian Church fellowship hall. Gathering will commence at 4:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6. Anyone who attended Oddville School or has an affection for it is invited to attend. A catered buffet dinner is $18 per person served by Layne Tussey of “The Vault Catering.” Payments are required by May 20. Scholarships are awarded each year. They began with a bequest by Edith Munson and continued through contributions.
