  • Cooper Isaac Brooks

    Cooper Isaac Brooks was born to Chris and Mandy Brooks of Cynthiana on March 22, 2010 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. He weighed 7 lbs. 7 oz.

  • Driving into town the other day I was depressed about how this mulch thing has really gotten out of hand.  Every tree looked like a telephone pole sticking out of a rounded mound or orange-looking mulch. 

    All I could think was “poor trees.” I keep writing about it, but is doesn’t seem people are getting the message that too much mulch is a bad thing. 

    I know, some people have been liberated, but we still have some more work to do.  The bottom line: Two inches of coarse mulch that is not piled around the trunk.

  • The Democratic Woman’s Club of Harrison County met for a luncheon meeting at the Cynthiana Country Club on March 26. Irene Bragg, president, called the meeting to order. Marilyn Bell led in prayer. And Trudy McGuire led in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Democratic Creed.

    Bragg welcomed several candidates or their representatives who were present. A number of public officials were present.

    May 3 -- Harrison County Homemaker Annual Meeting, 6 p.m., Harrison County Extension Office. Tickets are $10 each and available at the office.

  • The Harrison County Farmers Market committee will meet on Tuesday, April 20 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Harrison County Health Department.

  • * We hope that you will include a visit to the museum as a part of the eighth annual Raggedy Ann Festival this Saturday, April 17 in downtown Cynthiana.

    * R.B. Gruelle was born in 1851 in Cynthiana. Do you know who R.B. Gruelle was?

    * Even as a boy, R. B. Gruelle was an artist, showman and businessman. He produced magic lantren shows for the neighborhood children. There is a magic lantern in the bueum magic lantern in the museum collection.

    Alisha Eckler of Harrison County has finished her first week of overseas traveling adventure. She left Cincinnati on April 3 for a 118-day adventure around the world.

  • The Harrison County Ag Development Board wants to remind all Farmers in Harrison County that the sign-up period for programs in 2010 will end on Monday, April 19 at 4:30 p.m. All applications should be returned to the Harrison County Extension Office.

    ALUMNI BANQUET

    The Buena Vista Alumni Banquet will be held at the First United Methodist Church Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 6 p.m. All former students, teachers, alumni and friends are welcome.
