  • I am only now recovering. It has been four days since Andy and I planted out 100 asparagus crowns.  
    Planting asparagus is an investment on all accounts, time, labor, money, patience and then the big payoff, which is fresh asparagus for two months each spring right from your own garden.
    This is the second time I have a participated in an asparagus planting extravaganza (I told Andy when we were finished two times in a life time is enough for me).  

  • What is Bloat? Bloat in cattle can result in lost animal performance and severe cases, death. It occurs as a result of a buildup of fermentation gases in the rumen. Bloat may be categorized as frothy bloat, which is caused by the formation of stable foam in the rumen, or free gas bloat, which is due to excessive production of gaseous compounds from fermentation or as a result of an obstruction preventing the escape of gas compounds. Legume bloat is a frothy bloat condition.

  • On Oct. 21, Licking Valley Business and Professional Women’s Club held their annual awards dinner at First United Methodist Church banquet room to honor local women and a business for various awards.
    Those honored were, Business of the Year- Poindexter Lumber Co.; Woman of the Year- Pat Barnes; and Woman of Achievement- Martha Sullivan, officer at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
