    The Cynthiana First Church of God youth ministry is hosting a golf scramble on May 8 for the students that will be attending the International Youth Convention in Orlando, Fla.  While attending the youth convention, the students will take part in Impact on Orlando that will be providing a service for the community that will leave it a better place than when they arrived.

    Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Thursday, May 6 in Claysville at 10:30 a.m.; Edgemont at 2:30 p.m.; and White Oak from 3-3:30 p.m.

    HMH Auxiliary Purse and Accessory Sale by The Bag Ladies on Thursday, May 6 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Harrison Memorial Hospital front lobby.Proceeds to benefit the HMH Auxiliary.

  • BUENA VISTA ALUMNI BANQUET

    The Buena Vista Alumni Banquet will be held at the First United Methodist Church Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 6 p.m. All former students, teachers, alumni and friends are welcome.

    For reservations call Dorothy Slade at 234-5835 by May 11. The meal will be $13 per person.

    ODDVILLE ALUMNI DINNER

    The Oddville School Alumni dinner will be held at the Cynthiana Christian Church fellowship hall on Saturday, May 29. The get-together of old friends and begin at 4:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m.

    Stormy Mae Nicole McKinney was born to Tonya Nicole Fryman of Somerset, Ky. on March 28, 2010 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. She weighed 7 lbs. 1 oz.

    David Rylan Dale Ross

    David Rylan Dale Ross was born to Megan and David Michael Ross of Cynthiana on Feb. 11, 2010 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. He weighed 6 lbs. 8 oz.

  • * Cynthiana Democrat, Nov. 17, 1960 -- “Doors to the Railway Express Agency will be permanently closed within the next few months. The move is one of several now under consideration by the Kentucky Railroad Commission. Service to Cynthiana won’t be discontinued however. Instead the move is designed to actually give this area better support from the Agency which will be operated from Lexington.”

  • The Harrison County Ag Development Board has completed the scoring of the 2010 Phase I applications.

    The Board received 184 applications and 84 have been approved. The scoring on the applications ranged from 91.5 to 31.5 points. Those receiving 75 points or above were approved.

    This approval is contingent upon producers attending the training which will be Tuesday, May 4 at the Harrison County Extension Office beginning at 7:30 p.m.

  • Known as false indigo or wild indigo, Baptisia australis is a North American native that is due some new attention; it is good to see it rise to the ranks of a Perennial Plant of the Year. 

    Most gardeners just want things to look good without too much fuss and that’s the mission of the Perennial Plant Association’s “Plant of the Year” program. 

    Each year, industry professionals vote for what they think is an outstanding perennial. This year the votes have been cast for Baptisia australis.
