  • ANNESS
    Family and friends of James and Julia Anness will meet for a reunion at Northside Elementary School on Sunday, June 2 at 12:30 p.m. Bring a covered dish to share.

    ARNOLD
    The 66th annual Arnold reunion will be held Sunday, June 9 at the Mt. Caramel Christian Church on U.S. 27 South at 12:45 p.m.

    HATFIELD-WORKMAN
    The Hatfield-Workman reunion will be held at Flat Run Veterans Park (shelter area) on June 9. A potluck meal will be served at 12:30 p.m.

  • A couple of weeks ago one of the prettiest flowers in the garden started to bloom.  
    This great cut-leaf Japanese peony, Paeonia tenuifolia, opened its simple ruby-colored petals to reveal bright yellow stamen.  
     The finely cut foliage, reminiscent of the most finely cut foliage of a Japanese maple, allows the plant to be interesting in the mixed border the rest of the growing season, too.  

  • The Harrison County Phase I meeting for 2013 will be held Monday, June 3 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Harrison County Extension meeting room.
    The program will be an opportunity to receive the 2013 application and discuss changes from previous years. I would encourage you to attend this meeting, if possible. This is not a mandatory meeting.
    The deadline for returning your application is Monday, June 17 at 4:30 p.m. No exceptions will be accepted.

  • FRIDAY, May 31
    Pork BBQ Luncheon. Friday, May 31 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Harrison Memorial Hospital front lawn. Pork prepared by County Judge Executive Alex Barnett and sponsored by the HMH Relay for Life Team.
    Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Friday, May 31 at Community Action Center & Harrison County Adult Care Center from 10:30 a.m.-noon; Hinton, 3-4 p.m.

  • Bob and Velma Barkley of Cynthiana will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on May 25. They were married on May 25, 1973 at the First Methodist Church by the Rev. Earl Curry.
    Bob is a retired Chief of Police from the Cynthiana Police Department and Velma is retired from the Square D Company, Lexington, after 49 years of service.

  • Wesley and Jessika Wade of Harrison County will celebrate their first year anniversary on May 30. They were married on May 30, 2012 in Hawaii.
    Wesley is the son of Gerald and Bonie Wade of Cynthiana. He is a graduate of Harrison County High School and is employed by Solution Dispersion.
    Jessika is the daughter of Libby Zimmerman and Bobby Neace and the granddaughter of Janice Moore, all of Harrison County. She is a graduate of Harrison County High School and is employed by Redd-Brown and Williams Construction Company.
    They reside in Bourbon County.

    Rachel Ann Reeves, 33, and Marvin Gene Boyers, 36, married April 20, 2013.
    Rachel Maxine Ward, 20, and Casey Wade Rogers, 26, married May 4, 2013.
    Katherine Rose Tomlin, 23, and Dustin Tyler Hehr, 22, married May 4, 2013.
    Pamela Rose Stiles, 51, and Randy Lee Zimmerman, 46, married May 8, 2013.

  • The Cynthiana Chapter of the DAR met at the home of Kay Thomas on May 11.
    Melinda Rawlings, Regent, called the meeting to order and welcomed guests Betty Marshall and Donna Pope.
    The DAR Ritual, Pledge of Allegiance, and the American’s Creed were recited followed by singing of the Star Spangled Banner.
    In lieu of the President General’s message and the Conservation Minute, Rawlings discussed a disease among bats known as the ‘white nosed bats.’ The National Defense message was about a World War II Pulaski reunion.

    The Northcutt family reunion will be held Sunday, June 2 beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the Curry fellowship building on Upper Curry Road. Come bring a dish or two.
