    Celebrity chefs say people eat with their eyes first.  Then, they serve up a deliciously crafted work of art on a plate.  It may be true, but most of us use our senses of smell and taste to satisfy hunger.

  • The insect world has countless sucking and chewing pests. One of the most difficult questions to answer, and I get asked it often, is “what’s eating my plant?”

    It could be a chewing beetle, or caterpillar; or it could be a sucking spider mite, bug or aphid, among many, many others. 

    Our early heat wave this summer added an additional component to the problem…many insects love this sort of disagreeable weather and can multiply more rapidly as a result.

    Harrison County High School Class of 1960 will have its 50th reunion on July 17, 2010 with social time from 5 to 6:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 at the Cynthiana Country Club.

    The Criswell-Rankin-Slade-Martin reunion will be Sunday, Aug. 8 at the Benson United Methodist Church.

    Women’s Book Club selection for the month of July is Life of Pi by Yann Martel. The book is available for pick-up at the front desk at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library.  Will meet Thursday, July 8 at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served the night of discussion.

    Prize Book Store. Will be open from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the library.

    Berry City Commission will meet Thursday, July 8, at 7 p.m., at Berry City Hall. The meetings are open to the public.

    Helena United Methodist Church will host a motorcycle show on Saturday, July 17 at 4 p.m.
