    School opening delayed three days due to various construction projects underway at Harrison County schools.

  • COPES
    The 42nd annual Copes family reunion will be held on Sunday, Aug. 4 at the Raphael Patrick Fellowship Hall at Curry United Methodist Church. A potluck lunch will be served at 1 p.m.
    All family and friends are invited to attend.

    MARSH
    The descendents of Nicholas Corbin and Mary G. Holton Marsh will hold their annual family reunion on Sunday, Aug. 4 at 1 p.m. at the Elks shelter on US 62 East. A potluck meal will be served. Plates, cups, utensils and drinks will be provided. Come and enjoy the food, fun and fellowship.

  • World Breastfeeding Week will be celebrated worldwide Aug. 1-7/Oct. 1-7. The 2013 World Breastfeeding Week theme, Breastfeeding Support: Close to Mothers, highlights the importance of providing support to breastfeeding families.

  • 2013 is turning into a very unusual cropping year.  Following 2012, hot and dry, 2013, has been cool and wet, relative to some of our recent years. Crops overall seem to be in pretty good shape. The corn and soybeans are on the mark of being outstanding. Grass for grazing continues to be green and excellent for growing our young calves. Hay production has been outstanding, even if we never had a period to harvest our hay. Everything looks rosy at this time. But, there is another side of the story.

    HCHS Cheerleaders Yard Sale. The Harrison County varsity cheerleaders will hold a yard sale on Friday, Aug. 2 from 6:30 a.m. till ? at Southside Elementary School. Multiple families, middle school dress code clothing (name brand), children’s clothing, household items and more. Come support the HCHS cheerleaders.
    Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Friday, Aug. 2 at Cynthiana Baptist at 10:30 a.m.; Eastside Laundry, 3:30 p.m.

  • Elmer and Gina West announce the recent marriage of their daughter, Hilary West, to Clint Gaunce.
    West is a 2011 graduate of Harrison County High School and has a degree in dental assisting. She works full time at Walmart.
    Grandparents of the bride are Phyllis Claypool and the late Billy Claypool, and Elmer and JoAnn West.
    The grooms parents are Kenny and Kim Gaunce. He is a 2011 graduate of Harrison County High School and works full time at Toyota.

  • Brooklyn Nickole Susanne Enlow was born to John Enlow and Jennifer Van Deren of Cynthiana on July 8, 2013 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    She weighed 6 lbs. 8 oz., and is welcomed by her sister Shanna Renee Moore.
    Maternal grandparents are Dwayne Van Deren of Cynthiana and Shelia Stansbury of Morgan City, La.; maternal great-grandparents are the late Dave and Mary Van Deren of Cynthiana.
    Paternal grandparents are Paul and Mitzi Enlow of Cynthiana; paternal great-grandfather is Dale Lamphier of Patroit, Ohio.
