  • The spring CPH Sale is planned for Paris Stockyards on Thursday, April 11. The sale will be conducted at the start of the regular sale. This will be the second sale since the stockyards was opened under new ownership.

  • Perhaps this can be a reminder of the payoff of “putting up” the garden in spring, summer and fall: We have extended our homegrown eating pleasure into the winter months with some basic preservation methods.  
    If you froze, dried, canned or otherwise preserved fresh fruits and vegetables in 2012, do not forget about them (or horde them for some unreasonable time.)
    First, open the freezer and assess what’s there:  blanched Romano beans with some ice crystals forming inside the freezer bag?  
    Plan a stew for dinner.

    Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Friday, Feb. 1 at Beacon House at 10:30 a.m.; New Beginnings, 11 a.m.; Our Little Miracles, 11:30 a.m.; Robynwood Heights, 3-4 p.m.
    Chili Supper. Project Grad will be hosting a chili supper/ bake sale on Feb. 1 in the HCHS cafeteria from 5:30-8 p.m.

  • Cooper to present program at
    Men’s Fellowship
    Donnie Cooper will present a program on his life-long hobby of collecting arrowheads at the quarterly Christian Men’s Fellowship gathering on Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Cynthiana Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). A meal will be served at 6 p.m. prior to the program. A free-will offering will be taken.

  • On Nov. 24, the Jameson family named their newborn baby girl Hashtag, after Twitter’s use of the (#) symbol.
    The year before, an Egyptian man named his son Facebook, and in 2011 an Israeli couple named their baby Like.
    These babies join celebrities’ babies Spec Wildhorse Mellencamp, Moxie Crimefighter Jillette, Pilot Inspecktor Lee and Audio Science Clayton, which makes Apple Blythe Alison Martin sound almost traditional as a baby name.

  • Donnie and Robin Shaw of Cynthiana, announce the engagement of their daughter, Holly Nicole Shaw, to Michael Todd Beverly, son of Ricky and Felicia Beverly of Cynthiana.
    Shaw is a 2009 graduate of Harrison County High School and works at 3M through Volt.
    Beverly is a 2010 graduate of Harrison County High School and is an employee of CMWA.
    The wedding will take place on Feb. 9, 2013 at 4:30 p.m. A reception will follow at 6 p.m. Both will take place at the 4-H grounds in Cynthiana. All family and friends are welcome to the reception.

  • Jimmy and Mary Howard will be celebrating their golden wedding anniversary on Feb. 10, 2013, at a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. at Faith Hall of Faith Baptist Church, located at 1760 U.S. 27 in Cynthiana. All friends and family members are invited to attend.
    Jimmy and Mary exchanged vows on Feb. 10, 1963, at Milford Christian Church with Minister Gene G. Kearns officiating.
    The couple has two daughters, Karen Baldwin and Marilyn Thomas, and five grandchildren, Keith and Zachary Baldwin and David, Jameson, and Ella Thomas.

    William Lee Wagoner was born Dec. 3, 2012 to Brent Wagoner and Whitney Frederick.

    Search continues for a missing Lexington pilot whose plane was last seen on radar headed toward Cynthiana three weeks ago. The pilot left the Georgetown Airport enroute to Kansas City, Mo.
