  • Several years ago I made the mistake of leaving the water pump in the barn instead of storing it in the basement.  
    Well, I found out why Daddy always stored it in the basement during the cold days of winter. When I got the pump out to do some irrigation the following summer, the primer tank had split right open.  
    A little bit of moisture was left in the tank and it froze.  The tank is made of cast iron so imagine what a little moisture might do to your favorite terracotta pot.

  • The Sunrise Homemakers Club wanted to do something different for their June outing. They brainstormed several ideas. What could they do that would cost little money and save energy? The idea of traveling in our own county made sense. Since the club originated in the Sunrise area, and several members of the club had never been to the northeast part of the county. Why not visit there?

  • Megan Russell Gray, daughter of Russell and Robin Gray, and Jason Johnson McIlvain, son of David and Charleen McIlvain, were married at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 10, 2011 at Cynthiana Christian Church.
    The bride is the granddaughter of Julian and Margaret Gray of Cynthiana and Preston and Gertha Fudge of Burkesville.
    The groom is the grandson of the late Harold and Sue McIlvain of Cynthiana and Stella Martin of Cynthiana and the late Charles Martin.

  • Maximus Jett announces the forthcoming marriage of his parents, Tiffney Nicole Martin and William Allen Jett.
    The bride is the daughter of Thelma and Dennis Craig of Burlington, Ky.
    The groom is the son of Patsy Wilson and the late William Glenn Jett of Cynthiana.
    The couple will wed on Nov. 19, 2011 at 3 p.m. at the Hour of Deliverance Chapel off of Second and Broadway in Cynthiana. Friends and family are invited to attend.

  • Rylee Dale Weeks was born to Wayne Weeks Jr. and Cyndi Jo Adkins of Cynthiana, Ky., on Aug. 24, 2011 at Meadowview Regional Center in Maysville, Ky. She weighed 7 lbs. 14 oz., and is welcomed by her sister Kaylee Jo Adkins.
    Maternal grandparents are Alan Moody and Tammy Swinford of Cynthiana and Marvin C. Adkins of Morehead, Ky.; maternal great-grandparents are Lucille K. Oney of Flemingsburg, Ky. and the late Ermal Oney and Zelma S. Adkins of Morehead, Ky. and the late Avery Adkins.

  • Gracie May Ison was born to Keith and Janet Ison of Berry, Ky., on July 2, 2011 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. She weighed 7 lbs. 1 oz., and is welcomed by her sisters, Alexandria Ison and Morgan Ison.
    Maternal grandparents are Robert C. Wiggins of Cynthiana and Brenda K. Lindsey of Corinth, Ky.; maternal great-grandparents Robert C. Wiggins, Iowna Winkle, and Leonard and Vada Spence.
    Paternal grandparents are Charlotte and Allen Ison of Georgetown, Ky.; paternal great-grandparents are Ann and Owen Cravens and George and Ecie Ison.

    Cynthiana Mayor and Commissioners to receive pay raises in 2003.
    Chuck’s Garage, 209 N. Main St., is moving to a new location and will be closed from Nov. 26 to Dec. 3. The new location is at 50 Techway Dr., behind E.D. Bullard.

  • * Cynthiana Democrat, Sept. 15, 1938 - “An old fire cistern, a relic of the days before a water works system was installed in Cynthiana, was discovered last week by John P. Stevens, WPA supervisor in charge of the construction of Miller Street between Pike and Bridge Streets. It was uncovered at the corner of Miller and Pike and was half filled with water. The cistern was 16 feet deep and 16 feet in diameter.”

  • Former telephone operators will meet Saturday, Nov. 19 at 1 p.m. at Biancke’s for their annual reunion luncheon. Everyone should bring a gift.
