  • I am sure most farmers in the area have made a special effort to feed and maintain an adequate water supply for their animals during this extreme cold weather. The last couple of weeks have created stress on the animals and the produce as well. The need of a good feed supply is essential to maintaining our animals. With spring calving season approaching the following article was prepared by Dr. Jeff Lehmkuhler on care for young calves as the late winter and spring calving season occurs.

  • The Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s Poster and Essay Contest will add a category for digital submissions this year along with the traditional poster and essay competitions.
    The theme of this year’s contest is “Kentucky Farmers — Our American Heroes.”

  • Tommy and Jean Hardin will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 10. They were married Jan. 10, 1964 at the home of the Rev. Ulli Herron with the Rev. Herron officiating the ceremony.
    The couple has two sons, Tom (Cindy) Hardin and Jerry (Michelle) Hardin, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
    Tommy is retired from 3M and Jean is a semi-retired homemaker. They continue to farm while enjoying their retirement.

  • Omega chapter of Beta Sigma Phi celebrated “Christmas in the country”  with a dinner at the home of Rosemay Lucas on Dec 2.
    Thirteen members attended this activity at the festively decorated house. Guest for the evening was Cassie Lucas.

    Toyota Motor Manufacturing presents a $2,500 check to the City of Cynthiana for a picnic shelter at the new park in Cynthiana.

  • Bill McCann, the Roxford Poet, has started a poetry blog on Blogspot.com at the address roxfordpoet.blogspot.com. McCann, who lives on the 12 acre Roxford Farm near Corinth in northern Harrison County writes poetry inspired by places and spaces in Grant and Harrison Counties including barns, churches, homes, road, vistas, cemeteries, pets and wildlife.

    Champions For A Drug-Free Harrison County will meet Monday, Jan. 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department. Meetings are held the second Monday of each month.

    TUESDAY, Jan. 14
    Young Adult Book Group selections are in and ready for pick up at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. This group is open to middle school, high school and adults. The meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 4:30 p.m.
