    The Anderson reunion will be held Sunday, Aug. 5 at Antioch Mills Christian Church with a potluck meal at 1 p.m. Drink and table service provided.

    HCHS BAND ALUMNI
    Band! Atten-hut! The fourth annual reunion of the Harrison County Band Alumni will take place this Saturday at the Rohs Opera House from 2:30-5 p.m. All current and former band members should dust off their instruments and pull out their tattered school song music as the event will kick off with off with a rowdy rendition of the HCHS Fight Song.

  • We have all asked the question “Why hasn’t my plant bloomed?” Sometimes the answer is as simple as not enough sunlight, not old enough, not cold enough or hot enough, etc.
    In fact, it could be as simple as a little digging and dividing for some renewed blooming attitude.
    For most of my herbaceous perennials I wait until early fall to do a good portion of my digging and dividing.   

  • As serious drought conditions continue to creep across nearly two-thirds of the lower 48 states, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) officials are fanning out to rural communities across the country to show support to farmers and ranchers affected by a string of extreme weather in 2012.

  • CORNERSTONE ASSEMBLY FULL GOSPEL
    The Cornerstone Assembly Full Gospel Church, 101 N. Locust St.,  will be having a church-wide yard sale on Saturday, Aug. 4, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with proceeds to benefit the church.
    The yard sale will be followed by a Singspiration with special guest singers performing.
    The public is invited.

    Grandmother’s Dream Catcher. Thursday, July 26 at 5 p.m. at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. Listen to the book  Grandmother’s Dream Catcher and make a dream catcher. For ages 4 and up.
    Women’s Brook Group. Thursday, July 26 at 6 p.m. at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. The book for discussion will be The Paris Wife by Paula McClain. Refreshments will be served the night of discussion.  Copies of the book may be picked up at the front desk.

  • Colonel (ret.) and Mrs. Robert Owen announce the marriage of their daughter, Jennifer Chowning Owen, to Alexander Anson Cumming, son of Gregory and Christine Cumming of Fairfax, Va., on March 17, 2012.
    Owen is the granddaughter of Mary Howk Owen of Lexington, Ky., formerly of Cynthiana, Ky., and the late Robert Owen Sr.
    She was attended by Sara Owen Pecorari, Matron of Honor, of L’isle Sur La Sorgue, France, Angie Meehan of Potomac Falls, Va., Amy Hinds of Fairfax, Tracy Simpson of Silver Spring, Md., and Eryn Cumming of Fairfax.

  • Terri Brooke McMichael and Christopher Jordan Ritchie, both of Cynthiana, were united in marriage on April 14, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. at Connersville Christian Church. Bro. Darrell Goodlett officiated. Music was provided by Terry McMichael and Will Durbin, guitarist, Jordin Vallandingham, soloist, and Stacy Hein, pianist. A reception followed at The Prizing House of Cynthiana.
    The bride is the daughter of Terry and Angie McMichael of Cynthiana. The groom is the son of Chris Ritchie and Kristin Ecklar of Cynthiana.

  • Aubree Elaine Carter was born to Jarrod and Erika Carter on July 9, 2012 at Central Baptist Hospital.
    She weighed 7 lbs. 11 oz., and is welcomed by her sister, Lauren Taylor Carter.
    Maternal grandmother is Janice Kearns.
    paternal grandparents are Timothy (Rose) Carter and the late Sandra Brooks.

  • Adysin Nicole Earlywine was born to Brandi Moore and Corey Earlywine of Cynthiana on July 3, 2012 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    She weighed 7 lbs. 2 oz., and is welcomed by her brother, Lucas Kane Spence-Earlywine.
    Maternal grandparents are Lynis Poe and Brian Moore of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandparents are Sue and Erman Kelly, Jody Browning and Jimmy Moore.
    Paternal grandparents are Jeff and Lisa Earlywine of Millersburg, Ky.; paternal great-grandparents are William and Allen Earlywine and Patsy Willcox.
