  • Growing and cooking with herbs

    Herbs and spices have been used in foods for centuries. It has been reported that in 1492 when Columbus sailed the ocean blue, he did so in order to reach the rich herbs and spices of the Orient. Join us on Tuesday, March 27 at 1 p.m. at the Harrison County Extension Office for Growing and Cooking with Herbs. Jennifer Howard, Clark County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Science, will share how to grow an herb garden, how to make herbal vinegars, provide hints for using herbs in foods and taste testing.

    Aubrey Michelle Bates was born to Robby and Michelle Bates of Cynthiana on Oct. 4, 2011 at Central Baptist Hospital. She weighed 7 lbs. 5 oz.
    Maternal grandparents are Rick and Mary Beth Foster of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Billy Ray Sadler and the late Wayne Tucker.
    Paternal grandparents are Robert and Patti Bates of Corinth; paternal great-grandparents are Bob and Lois Bates, Glenn Campbell of Crittenten and the late Ruth Campbell.

  • Mary Henson Circle holds March meeting

    The Mary Henson Circle of the Elmarch United Methodist Church met at the church on Tuesday, March 6 for its monthly meeting.
    The meal was potluck with Doris Fryman giving the blessing.
    The business meeting was called to order by Pauline Copes, president. Officers for 2012 were installed by lighting their candles and making their pledges.

  • New group formed to help children

    The first few years of a child’s life play a critical role in its overall success or failure as an adult. Recently a new group was created to help the children of Harrison County grow and develop to their full potential.  
    The group is called the “Harrison County Community Early Childhood Council” (CECC) and its purpose is to bring organizations together so that they can serve the area’s children more efficiently and effectively.

  • Moore to teach local dance-fitness classes

    Crystal Moore, a newly certified Jazzercise instructor, earned the right to teach Jazzercise by completing a three-day workshop and performing a letter-perfect audition.
    Becoming a Jazzercise instructor requires dedication and training. Moore recently participated in a workshop in West Chester, Ohio, sponsored by the Franchise Programs and Services Department of Jazzercise, Inc.
