  • Slagle-Dean plan outdoor spring wedding in Florida

    Teresa M. Slagle of Ocala, Fla., and Bill Dean of Rhode Island, Mass., announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.
    Slagle is the daughter of Lillie M. (Morris) Simpson of Cynthiana, Ky. and Lawrence Charles (Charlie) Slagle of Lexington, Ky. She is a 1983 graduate of Harrison County High School and a 1986 graduate of Midway College, Midway, Ky. She is employed by the State of Florida with the Department of Environmental Protection under the Bureau of the Office of Greenways and Trails.

  • Thompsons to celebrate 50th anniversary Nov. 12

    Parkey and Helen Thompson of Flemingsburg, Ky. are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married on Nov. 11, 1961 in Berea, Ky. and have four children. They are Parkey Jr. (Lisa) Thompson of Cumming, Ga., Tammy (Doug) Switzer of Cynthiana, Tracey (Steve) Rials of Union, Ky. and Kevin (Angie) Thompson of Mayslick, Ky. They also have 12 grandchildren.

  • Federal government takes action on Radon gas to prevent deaths in 2011

    Oct. 17-24 was Federal Radon Action Week according to The Surgeon General. Health agencies throughout the United States have joined forces to promote awareness of the leading cause of lung cancer for non-smokers.  The American Lung Association, Centers for Disease Control, and National Cancer Institute all agree that radon is a National health problem and encourage radon testing during the October awareness drive.

  • A marquee wedding proposal

    Harrison County High School sweethearts Andrea Rankin and Justin Wells were together nearly five years when they split up in 2003.
    They met when Andrea was 14 years old during a shared P.E. class and made an instant connection.
    However, following a short engagement, the couple decided to go their separate ways.
    Their split was a total loss of contact with one another for eight years.
    However, through what Justin calls “the wonder of social networking,” they reconnected in April.

    Local pets from Harrison County are the focus of the first annual 2012 Humane Society engagement calendar book. Each month features two local pets, with a story of their lives and a full page professional photo of the ‘pet of the month’.

    David Tyler Collins was born to Derrick and Amanda Collins on Sept. 19, 2011 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. He weighed 6 lbs.
    Maternal grandparents are Peachie and Vicki Herrington of Cynthiana.
    Paternal grandparents are David and Jackie Collins of Cynthiana.
