  • Community Action Council challenges the community to help the elderly

    The projected heat can put the sick and elderly at high risk. For those with medical conditions like asthma, allergies, lung and heart disease and other respiratory problems, the added stress of summer temperatures can be life threatening. To reduce the threat, Community Action Council’s Summer Cooling Program has started accepting applications for assistance.

  • Barlow Homemakers

    The Barlow Homemakers Club was formed 46 years ago and has remained a very active club. The club was named after Harrison County agent Wanda Amos Barlow. Patsy Medlin is the remaining charter member.
    The club meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. If it is difficult for you to attend a club meeting during the day, we are your solution. All clubs are open to serve all people regardless of race, color, age, sex, religion, disability or national origin.

  • AARP Class scheduled

    As we get older we notice gradual changes, such as vision changes, slower reaction time, or a harder time remembering.  There are ways to compensate for these changes to make you a safer driver on the road plus you can save money. When you finish the class you’ll receive a certificate to take to your insurance company. All insurance companies in Kentucky are required by law to give you a discount. The amount varies by carrier.

    The Anness family reunion will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Northside Elementary School. A potluck lunch will be served at noon. All family and friends are invited to attend.

  • Shady Lawn 2012 Luau

    Residents of Shady Lawn were treated with an afternoon luau on Friday, May 25. Several games including a water balloon toss were the highlight of the event. The staff started the afternoon of fun with a barbacue for the residents. Pictured are some of the residents enjoying the afternoon.

    John and Emma Phillips  celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary May 23, 2012. The couple, from Lees Lick have lived in Cynthiana their whole lives.

  • Northcutt-Philpot announce May 26 wedding

    Emily Beth Northcutt of Cynthiana, Ky. and Kyle Warren Philpot of Berry, Ky., announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.
    Northcutt is the daughter of Benjamin and Mattie Northcutt of Cynthiana, and is a 2012 graduate of Morehead State University with a Bachelors in Elementary Education.
    Philpot is the son of Kenneth and Linda Philpot of Berry, and is a 2010 graduate of the University of Northwestern Ohio with an Associate of Applied Sciences in Automotive and Diesel Technology. He is employed at Mechanic Masters in Paris, Ky.

  • Whitaker-Lanway to marry May 26

    Mr. and Mrs. Michael Lanway of Bardstown, Ky., announce the upcoming marriage of their daughter, Katherine, to Matthew Glen Whitaker, son of Glen and Vicki Whitaker, Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Cynthiana, Ky.
    Lanway is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, College of Dentistry. She lives and works in Lexington.
    Whitaker, a Murray State University graduate, also lives and works in Lexington.
    The wedding will take place at My Old Kentucky Home in Bardstown on May 26, 2012. Invitations have been sent.
