    * Log Cabin, May 13, 1905 -- “The young men of the Twentieth Century Euchre Club will give a euchre party at St. Edwards Hall next Tuesday night, this being the last of the season.”
    * Cynthiana Democrat, April 12, 1951 -- “George Smith, believed to be the oldest resident of Northern Kentucky, died at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Covington, at the age of 102. A native of Cynthiana and a resident of Covington for many years, Smith was born in slavery in 1849. He was freed by the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863.”

  • Currans to be honored with birthday celebration

    The family of Anna Mae Currans will host a special birthday celebration in her honor on July 14 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at Cynthiana Christian Church.
    The public is invited to come share in the celebration with cards, pictures and memories. No gifts please.

  • Wade-Cooper announce engagement

    Rick and Debbie Wade of Versailles announce the engagement of their daughter, Taylor Elizabeth, to Chase Allen Cooper of Versailles, son of Buck and Lori Cooper of Lexington and Tammy McClain of Nicholasville.
    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Frances Simms of Cynthiana and the late Bob Simms and Dick and Janet Wade of Versailles.
    The bridegroom-elect is the grandson of Linda and Jerry Casey of Versailles.
    The wedding will take place in July.

  • Ross-Fugate plan August wedding

    Jessica Ross of Lexington, Ky., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Ross, Lexington, and Jeff Fugate, Lexington, son of Linda Gilbert, Lexington, announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.
    The Ross is the granddaughter of Ophelia Ross and the late Marvin Ross and the late Lark and Ruth Box.
    The wedding will be held Aug. 24, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. at The Barrel House Gardens.

  • Ammerman’s to celebrate golden anniversary July 6

    Gerald Joseph and Martha Jane Herrington Ammerman of Georgetown, Ky., will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, July 6, 2013.  They were married by the Rev. Wayne B. Smith at Southland Christian Church, Lexington, Ky. Their attendants were Buddy Herrington and Jane Lee Perkins Herrington.
    They have three children, Kevin M. Ammerman, Gulf Shores, Ala., Jawania M. Ammerman-Hargis, Georgetown, Ky. and Kirtley D. Ammerman, Grapevine, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

  • Education, support efforts needed to help prevent Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome

    Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) is a disorder that occurs when an infant is born dependent on legally prescribed or illegally obtained drugs used by the mother during pregnancy. Hospitalizations in Kentucky for newborns with NAS climbed from 29 in 2000 to 730 in 2011-a staggering 2,400 percent increase. Unfortunately, NAS numbers will continue to climb in the Commonwealth of Kentucky without increased education and support for prevention efforts.

  • Aldree Nicole Stone

    Aldree Nicole Stone was born to Jacqueline Stone and Stacey Pergram of Cynthiana on June 19, 2013 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    She weighed 7 lbs. 1 oz., and is welcomed by her brother Xavier Carter.
    Maternal grandparents are Tammy Stone and Timmy Hill of Cynthiana, and Tim Stone of Ohio; maternal great-grandparents are the late Jackie and Alice Thompson.
    Paternal grandparents are Joanne and Noble Pergram of Carlisle, Ky.

    The Hiten family reunion will be held July 13 at the Cynthiana Elks Lodge at noon. The reunion is for the family of Will and Bertha Hiten.
