    Kingston Kai Custard was born to Tara Ross and James Custard of Cynthiana on Aug. 27, 2012 at Central Baptist Hospital.
    He weighed 8 lbs. and is welcomed by his brother, Kaydon, and sister Keylee.
    Maternal grandparents are Debra (Bill) Selin of Cynthiana and Mike Ross of Aberdeen, Ohio.
    Paternal grandparents are Larry and Victoria Williams of Cynthiana.

    The recent salmonella outbreak traced to cantaloupes grown in Indiana has many Kentuckians concerned about consuming melons, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to abstain from eating this fresh summer delicacy. When properly handled, melons can be a safe, satisfying treat.
    Here are some tips on how to safely handle melons:
    • Buy melons from a local, reputable source. The shorter the distance food has to travel from farm to table, the less of a chance that microorganisms have grown on the produce. Microorganisms need time to multiply.

  • Smith-Doyle plan outside wedding

    Tom Smith and Rosemary Smith announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Jenifer Rose Smith, to Adam Ray Doyle.
    Doyle is the son of Mark and Julie Doyle.
    An outside wedding has been planned at the Cardome Center in Georgetown, Ky., Saturday, Sept. 8 at 4 p.m. A reception will follow.
    All friends and family are invited.

  • Crouse-Reed to marry Oct. 20

    The Rev. Roger and Diana Crouse announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter Megan Marie Crouse of Berry, Ky., to Elwyn Blane Reed of Woodville, Miss.
    The couple met in 2010 at Redbird Mission in Clay County, Ky.
    Crouse is a 2002 Owen County High School graduate and a 2007 graduate of Kentucky State University. She works in the Harrison County school system.
    Reed is the son of Elwyn and Stephanie Reed, also of Woodville where he was home schooled. He is a Trailer Technician at Fleet Services Incorporated of Georgetown.

    Births announced this week are: EmmaRae Lashae Thurman, Aug. 23, daughter of Kevin and Barbie Thurman.
    Next Step Program to GED success now being offered through the Community Education Center. The program is a way to help families learn and work together as a team to improve their ways of life.
    Harrison County Air Force JROTC cadets presented the colors and raised the flags that will be flown over the new Justice Center. The new county flag, state flag and the U.S. flag were raised.

    CLASS OF 1992
    The Harrison County High School Class of 1992 will hold its 20th reunion on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Cynthiana Country Club from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m.
    The cost is $30 per couple or $20 individual. Cost includes finger foods and music.

  • Kentucky introducing new, tamper-resistant driver’s license

    Kentucky in August begins a transition to a new driver’s license that, while similar in appearance to current licenses, contains security features for greater protection of privacy and resistance to tampering.
    “The new licenses are the manifestation of Kentucky’s efforts to improve the level of service provided to our customers, in addition to securing a credential Kentuckians use each day,” Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) Department of Vehicle Regulation Commissioner Tom Zawacki said.

  • Taylors to celebrate 25th anniversary

    Dwight (Buddy) Taylor and Karen Taylor of Cynthiana will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on Aug. 28.
    Buddy is employed by Harrison Machine Shop and Karen is a housewife.
    The couple has one son, Chris Taylor of Cynthiana and one granddaughter, Chesney Taylor of Cynthiana.
