  • Hospice offering Volunteer Training Course on Feb. 23

Hospice of the Bluegrass is offering a Volunteer Training Course on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at the Hospice of the Bluegrass office. Lunch will be provided.
The lifeblood of Hospice of the Bluegrass is the volunteers who give of their time, energy and talents to ease the burden of terminally ill patients and their families. Transporting patients and families to appointments, relieving the caregiver, mowing the grass, visiting someone who is lonely, changing a light bulb, installing an air conditioner, helping with fundraisers, clerical work or a myriad of needs that can help.

  • Sunrise Homemakers Club formed 70 years ago, seen many changes

    Sunrise Homemaker Club
The Sunrise Homemaker Club lost a valuable member and friend, Rachel Mastin, who passed away in December. Mastin had served the club as secretary/treasurer for several years. Her presence is sorely missed.
The Sunrise Homemakers Club continues to meet the second Thursday of each month. The club was formed in 1946, and is one of the few remaining charter clubs. Margie Rainey is the only member still living that helped form the club in 1946. She resides at Cedar Ridge Health Campus and recently celebrated her 90th birthday.

  • Snow, deicing agents and plants

Up until recently, our mild winter has seen little snow. Snow has an insulating effect, which is particularly useful when we have frigid temperatures; otherwise it can be a joy to snow lovers and a nuisance to those who would rather be “snow birds.”
Ground-level snow will actually protect the roots and crowns of perennial and woody plants, but you may notice a little burn above the snow level when it comes to broadleaf evergreens.
