  • Women’s Club will meet Feb. 8

    The Women’s Club of Harrison County held their meeting at the Cynthiana Christian Church on Dec. 14 with Bonnie Teater, president, presiding.
    Violet Williams gave the blessing for lunch and the Spirited Values.
    The program Celebrating Christmas was given by Bill Probus and introduced by Virgie Wells. Everyone enjoyed singing Christmas songs while Probus played the piano.
    Patricia Williams, guest, was welcomed. There was no business meeting.
    No meeting is planned for January. The next meeting will be held Feb. 8.

  • Rohs Opera House to host Cynthiana Idol Night of Champions on Jan. 19

    Cynthiana Idol had its beginnings in 2008 at Rohs Opera House. The idea behind Cynthiana Idol was simple: provide a showcase for local singers and ride the popularity of American Idol. It is hard to believe that 2013 will mark the the sixth season of this local show. To celebrate, Rohs Opera House is hosting Cynthiana Idol: Night of Champions on Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m.

  • Benefit for Chris Jolly planned for Jan. 26

    A Benefit for Chris Jolly will be held Saturday, Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. at the Mt. Olivet Fire Hall.
    Jolly passed away on Dec. 26 after a long battle with stomach cancer. He was denied his disability twice while he was being treated for his cancer, his life insurance expired, and he couldn’t afford his treatments. His family is selling raffle tickets for: a country ham, tickets are $2 or 3 for $5. We are also asking local businesses to donate something for a silent auction for his benefit. The event will have a live band, silent auction and a chili supper.

    Births announced this week are: Summer Lynn Hensley, Dec. 20, daughter of Kevin and Michelle Hensley; Payton Nichole Hennemann, Dec. 23, daughter of Kevin and Alissa Hennemann; Tayton Allan Simpson, Nov. 4, son of Amber Thompson and Rex Simpson; Emily Denise White, Dec. 24, daughter of Dennis and Colena White.
    Cynthiana National Guard Company C 201st Engineer Battalion were deployed to Fort Knox as part of the homeland security Operation Noble Eagle.

  • Trunk damage can girdle trees

    The farm looks like a storm hit recently but it’s really just my husband’s new deer deterrent technique.  
    It seems to be working.
    In the past we have forgone the Irish Spring soap, human hair and coyote urine for more reliable barriers.  Tomato cages, tobacco stakes, wire, spiral plastic trunk wrap, and, yes, an occasional arrangement of lawn chairs have created distance between rutting and browsing deer.  
    This year does not seem as bad as year’s past.

  • Cundiff-Grinstead exchange vows

    Dr. Joshua Thomas Grinstead wed Abbagail Faith Cundiff on June 23, 2012 at the home and family farm of the bride’s grandparents, Clyde and Phyllis Sluss, Morehead, Ky.
    Cundiff is the daughter of Curt and Janie Cundiff of Morehead. She has recently completed her Master’s as a Reading/Writing Specialist at Morehead State University and she is teaching first grade at Straub Elementary in Mason County.
