  • Case announces upcoming events at Woman’s Club November meeting

    The Women’s Club of Harrison County held their November meeting at the Cynthiana Christian Church. Bonnie Teater, president, presided at the meeting.
    The music program was provided by Ben Clifford and Brad Whalen.
    Virgie Wells introduced Allen Judy who has been with the Cynthiana Police Department for 10 years. He showed a film on identity theft and talked about ways you can avoid theft. He also gave all members a book on Taking Charge.

    Harrison County Girl Scout Troops 36, 24, 1576 and a sister troop from Louisville, Ky., enjoyed the weekend at Camp Cardinal Oct. 26-28. The girls earned their Cooking and Ecology badge. Attending were: front row, from left, Kaitlin Barry, Felicia Whalen, Laurynn Miracle, Julia Cinnamon; second row, Katie Coghill, McKinley Fain, Kassidi Snapp, Taylor Hunt, Brooklyn Fryman, Faith Fryman; back row, Autumn Colvin, Leaha Wilson, Gracie Hughes, Delana Hooper and Lucy Barry.

    Sarah Renee Barton, center, received the Licking Valley Business and Professional Women’s $300 High School Student Sponsorship for college. Barton will be attending Maysville Community College this fall. She attended a luncheon in her honor and Carla Harney, past president, left, and Mary Ann Lee, president, presented Barton with a check and a certificate on behalf of the LVBPW Organization. Barton was also informed that she is now a member of the LVBPW Organization. The organization will pay for the first year of her State dues.

    The Curry Homemaker Club traveled to Georgetown this past summer for a meal at the Wilshire Restaurant. After the meal, members toured historic Ward Hall, Georgetown.

  • Mary Henson Circle hosts Thanksgiving lunch Nov. 6

    The Mary Henson Circle of Elmarch United Methodist Church hosted a Thanksgiving lunch on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The tables were decorated with fall arrangements and Pauline Copes, president, welcomed everyone and led in prayer. Pastor Jeff Jackson gave the blessing for the meal.
    Nikki Richie and Doris Fryman sang several songs and Diana White played the piano. Joyce Courtney was the guest speaker.
    After lunch the business meeting was called to order by Copes.
    Shut-in for November is Ruth Spires.

  • Local women, business honored at NB&PWW awards dinner

    On Oct. 23, Licking Valley Business & Professional Women’s Organization held their annual National Business & Professional Women’s Week Award dinner to honor various Licking Valley women and a business for the year 2012. The dinner was held at The Vault Restaurant, located in the Cynthiana-Harrison County Chamber of Commerce building, on the corner of Pike and Main Street.

  • Blessing Ball

    Excitement and anticipation was in the air as guests stepped out onto the red carpet, greeted by cheers of well-wishers. This was the scene of the first “Blessing Ball,” hosted by Leesburg Christian Church, and held at the Prizing House on Friday evening.  
    Inspired by the Jesus Prom of Southland Christian Church in Lexington, this was an evening of glamour and celebration for individuals with mental and physical disabilities as the honored guests.  

  • Woodheads to be honored on 50th anniversary

    Dan and Judy Woodhead will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house hosted by their family on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, from 2-5 p.m. at the Kincaid Lake State Park Multi-Purpose Building.   Your presence is their gift.
