  • Hiday hosts October meeting of the United Methodist Women

    The United Methodist Women of the First United Methodist Church met on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at the home of Jan Hiday. Refreshments were served by the hostess to convene the meeting. Marilyn Wash said the blessing.

    HCHS CLASS OF 1964
    The Harrison County High School Class of 1964 will be having their annual get-together on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. at Biancke’s. This annual event is an informal time to catch up on activities of class members. The meal will be soups (chili and potato), salad, sandwiches, tea and dessert and will cost each person $10. We need to get a count so if you plan to attend, call Ruth Ann Florence Wilson at 859-588-0760 or Donna Navarre at 859-234-1528.

  • Stray seed, hybrids and the mighty Hubbard squash

    I remember meeting a woman at the State Fair years ago that brought in a similar bag of tiny tomatoes. She said the plants were popping up here and there in the garden, not like anything she had ever planted.  
    There is a variety of teeny-tiny tomatoes called red currant tomatoes, but likely her diminutive crop is a cherry tomato hybrid from years past that had reverted back to the wild.
