    1/3 cup powdered sugar
    2 1/2 tablespoons unflavored gelatin
    1/2 cup cold water
    1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
    1 cup corn syrup
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/2 cup water
    1 teaspoon pure peppermint extract
    8 to10 drops red food color

  • Cynthiana Chapter NSDAR holds meeting, genealogy workshop

    The Cynthiana Chapter NSDAR held a meeting and genealogy workshop with Jack Miller of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), Blue Licks Chapter, on Oct. 28. The meeting was held at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. This workshop was opened to the public and there were 18 people in attendance.
    Regent Jane Whitehead welcomed guests and members. The DAR Ritual, Pledge of Allegiance, The Daughter’s Pledge, The American’s Creed, and the Preamble were recited, followed by singing The Star Spangled Banner.

  • United Methodist Women holds November meeting

    The United Methodist Women (UMW) of the First United Methodist Church met Nov. 2 in the Sidney Haviland Room of the church. Members brought a salad. The meeting was to be held at the home of Cindy Cropper but her mother was seriously ill. Our thoughts and prayers are with her.
    Barbara Harris, co-president, called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone. She read a poem written by Jessie Bell Lemons entitled “Those Who Serve.”
    Secretary Oma Doyle read the minutes of the October meeting. They were approved as read.

    4 flavored or plain pita folds or pita (pocket) breads (about 6 inches in diameter)
    16 thin pretzel sticks, halved
    1/2 cup fat-free sour cream
    1/2 cup guacamole
    2 tablespoons finely chopped parsley
    1/4 teaspoon garlic-pepper blend
    1/4 cup very finely chopped red bell pepper

    Ingredients
    1 package (16 ounces) vanilla-flavored candy coating (almond bark), broken into pieces
    24 hard peppermint candies

    Steps
    • Cover cookie sheet with waxed paper, aluminum foil or cooking parchment paper. Place candy coating in 8-cup microwavable measure or 2-quart microwavable casserole. Microwave uncovered on High 2 to 3 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds, until almost melted. Stir until smooth.

    Friday was the last regular season home game at Ingles’ Stadium. Coach Ray Graham stepped onto Lawson Field 25 seasons ago. A new sports complex will be constructed.
    CJ Catering is now open for business. Cindy and husband Terry Jones started the business at their new home on Pike Street.
