  • Planting garlic, digging sweet potatoes

    There are two categories of garlic to consider: Allium sativum, or soft-neck garlic and Allium ophioscordon, or hard-neck garlic.   
    Soft-neck garlic is the easiest and most widely cultivated because the bulbs are large and the cloves and skin are tight, which prevent moisture loss and allows for longer storage.

  • Roberts hosts luncheon for Leesburg Homemakers

    The Leesburg Homemakers Club met Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the home of Carole Roberts, president. There were eight in attendance which included Sue Burrier, Sheila Jameson, Marian  Anderson, Pat Huff, Juanita Hunt and special guests Benita Peoples and Ann McConnell.
    Burrier presented the lesson on financial affairs which included financial planning for life events from young adult through retirement years. Assessing needs, building savings, getting goals and consumer protection were some of the topics covered by club discussion.

  • Omega Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi to serve Thanksgiving theme meal to Clifton Village residents on Nov. 10

    September meeting
    The Omega chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at the home of Charlene Dawson. Ten members were present and answered roll call by mentioning a sign we know fall is coming.
    Barbara Snopek announced that the name for former member Pat Esrael had been left off the luminary list for Relay for Life. It will be added next year.
    Rosemary Lucas said that a rose and meal had been delivered to Patsy Barnett during her recent illness.

    The 1976 graduating class of Bourbon County High School will be held Saturday, Oct. 29 from 6-11 p.m.,  upstairs in the Thyme Cafe annex, across the street from the cafe, at 500 Main St., Paris, Ky.

    Births announced this week are: Brooklyn Shea Gibson, Sept. 14, daughter of Matthew and Autumn Sadler Gibson; Madison Leigh Giles, July 31, daughter of Ronnie Giles II “RJ” and Lori Giles.
    Judy Construction is working on the form that is part of the bridge construction underway at the Oddville Avenue recreation park. The $253,000 project should take about a month to complete.

    CLASS OF 1976
    The 1976 graduating class of Bourbon County High School has set Saturday, Oct. 29 from 6-11 p.m., as the date for their 40th class reunion.
    It will  be held upstairs in the Thyme Cafe annex, across the street from the cafe, at 500 Main St., Paris, Ky.
    A social hour  will  be from 6-7 p.m. and a catered buffet will  be served at 7 p.m. A cash bar will  also be available.

  • Kyiara Rayne Thompson

    Kyiara Rayne Thompson was born to Dana Underwood and Ranoni Thompson of Cynthiana on Oct. 10, 2016 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    She weighed 5 lbs. 9 oz., and is welcomed by her brothers Quinton and Declyn, and sisters Aleyah, Madison and Jordyn.
    Maternal grandparents are Bryon and Susan Perrin of Cynthiana and Michael Beagle of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandparents are Everett and Patsy Switzer, Melvin Howard, and the late Berttie Switzer, Priscilla Howard and Clay Beagle.
