    * Log Cabin, Feb. 4, 1905 -- “Mr. John W. Daniel has had a big force of hands employed recently in harvesting ice, and has paid out a considerable sum of money at a season of the year when work is scarce for the laborer. Mr. Daniel put up 700 to 800 tons of fine clear ice, from six to nine inches in thickness.” (Have you seen the ice exhibit at the museum?)

    Sara Kaytlyn Williams was born to Marty and Karen Williams of Carlisle on Nov. 22, 2010 at Saint Joseph East Hospital. She weighed 8 lbs. 3 oz., and is welcomed by her brother Merritt Taylor Williams.

  • Mahorney celebrates 100th birthday

    Tracy Mahorney, formerly of Cynthiana and now residing in Detroit, Mich., was born to the late Frazier and Amanda Mahorney on Jan. 30, 1911, in Cynthiana. On Sunday, Jan. 30, she will celebrate her 100th birthday with many family members and friends.
    Also, she will be celebrating the arrival her first great, great, great grandaughter, Ariyah Wilson, who was born on Jan. 13, 2011.

    * Western Visitor, Cynthiana, Ky., Oct. 22, 1835 - “Just received and now opening a general assortment of Fall and Winter Goods, which I will sell cheap for cash or country produce. S. F. Tebbs” (This was 19 years before the railroad reached Cynthiana. Mr. Tebbs’ merchandise was probably brought to Marysville (now Claysville) by the river then overland to Cynthiana.)

    Births announced this week are: David Trapper Butcher, Dec. 15, son of Heather and David Butcher; Carrell-Jean Storm Maryea, Jan. 20, daughter of Beth Tobin and Herman Maryea; Sarah Ellen McNees, Jan. 16, daughter of Ric and Johnell McNees; Gannon Ryan Terhune, Jan. 14, son of Jennifer Clifford and Phil Terhune.
    Repairs are being made to the City Hall gym floor after a nearly four-inch buckle was found. The floor warped as a result of escaping steam.
    The Harrison County Fillies remain undefeated in region play.

    Braelyn LaRae Wiglesworth was born to Kathryn Leopold and Nicholas Wiglesworth of Cynthiana on Jan. 12, 2011 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. She weighed 7 lbs. 8 oz.

    Ashley Jo French was born to Shanna and Darren French of Cynthiana on Dec. 16, 2010 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. She weighed 7 lbs. 9 oz., and is welcomed by Brooklynn Marie French.
