    10 years ago . . .
    Births announced this week are: Demaree Logan Lemons, Feb. 3, daughter of Wade and Amy Lemons; Abigail Paige Smith, Nov. 28, daughter of Jacob and Amy Smith.
    Seven women from the Community Education Center (CEC) hit $100,000 on the Kentucky Lottery Powerball game. Each will receive $14,285.71 before taxes or a little over $10,000 after taxes. They were Judy Feeback, Darlene Cummins, Lisa Grubb, Gina Owsley, Melissa Shepard, Vicky Faulkner and Patty Dacci.

  • John Kevin Blackburn

    John Kevin Blackburn was born to Kevin and Autumn Blackburn of Cynthiana on Nov. 25, 2013 at St. Joseph East Hospital.
    He weighed 10 lbs., and is welcomed by his brother Isaac Ross.
    Maternal grandparents are Eddie and Brenda Weber of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandparents are Ruth Hatton, the late Charles Thomas, and the late Edward and Dolly Weber.
    Paternal grandparents are Ross and Peggy Blackburn of Cynthiana; paternal great-grandparents are Carl Ross and the late Peggy Blackburn, and the late Chester and Ida B. Prebble.

  • Project Linus Blanket workday planned

    The North Central Kentucky Chapter of Project Linus invites the community to participate in a blanket workday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 29 at the First United Methodist Church, 1280 Lexington Road, Georgetown.
    During the workday, volunteers will turn finished quilt tops into completed quilts, make no-sew fleece blankets and more. There will be something to do for any skill level – from those who don’t sew to experienced quilters.

  • Whalen-Leathers plan June wedding

    John and Gerry Whalen of Cynthiana announce the engagement of their daughter, Jessica Mackenzie Whalen, to Blake Richard Leathers, son of Gregory and Cheryl Leathers of Louisville.
    The couple met while working as rock climbing instructors for Eastern Kentucky University.
    Whalen has a Bachelor’s degree in Learning and Behavior Disorders and English Education and is pursuing a Master’s degree as a Reading and Writing Specialist. She is a teacher at Harrison County Middle School.

    As summer fruit begins to ripen, or should I say rot, the calls start coming in.  
    Home orchardists in Kentuckiana are at wits end as they watch their apples, peaches and pears do little more than fall from the tree in a spotted, bruised or petrified state.  
    Managing orchard trees isn’t for the hands-off gardener; it takes effort to have healthy productive trees and that effort starts now.

  • Joneses celebrate 45th anniversary

    Louis “Buddy” and Wanda Jones celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. The couple was married at Unity Christian Church on Feb. 15, 1969, with Lloyd Taylor officiating the ceremony.
    The couple has one daughter, Jennifer Lynn Jones Holden (Andrew Holden) and one granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Holden. They reside in Louisville, Ky.
    A celebration was hosted by their daughter at Indian Creek Christian Church on Feb. 16.

  • Woman’s club holds February meeting

    The Woman’s Club of Harrison County met Friday, Feb. 14 at the Hospice of the Bluegrass community room. Anna Ruth McLoney welcomed members and led in the Pledge of Allegiance.
    Layne Tussey catered the luncheon and Bonnie Teater offered the blessing.

    Dinner with the Doc. Tuesday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the Harrison Memorial Hospital Executive dining room. A series developed by HMH to share health facts and answer questions about specific medical issues. Guest speaker will be Dr. Shane Gainey and the topic will be Fatigue: It May Not Just Be Being Tired. Participants for this free dinner event must pre-register by call 859-235-3510.
