  • New Millennium Club members attend seminar

    The New Millennium Club met Monday, March 21 at Harrison Memorial Hospital for a supper/seminar sponsored by the hosital.
    Dr. Marla Pauez spoke on sleep apnea and some possible preventative measures available. This was an excellent informative program. There were 20 in attendance.
    The annual road pickup to earn money to go towards the annual Christmas party for Shady Lawn residents will be held soon.
    This weekend, March 25 and 26, members will be collecting at Walmart for Relay for Life.

  • Setters-Nickerson unite on March 5

    Melissa Robin Setters of Cynthiana and Brian Keith Nickerson of Cynthiana, exchanged vows on March 5, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. George Rose performed the ceremony.
    The bride is the daughter of Charles and Marcella Hall of Paris, Ky.
    The groom is the son of Nancy Nickerson of Cynthiana and the late Billy Nickerson.
    The bride was given in marriage by Rufus Nickerson.
    Shannon Congleton of Winchester, Ky. served as maid of honor.
    The best man was Chad Afterkirk of Georgetown, Ky.
    A reception was held at 121 Church Street.

  • Ford-Whalen exchange vows

    Lauren Ashley Ford, daughter of Rusty and Ragena Ford, Cynthiana, and Hank Whalen, son of Cathy Caudill and Brad Whalen of Cynthiana, exchanged vows on Aug. 29, 2015. The ceremony was held at 5:30 p.m. at Consolidated Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Larry Bishop.
    The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a Justin Alexander corded lace circular gown with a gathered Silk Dupion waistband and cathedral length train. She also wore an off the shoulder lace bolero accented with small pearls. She carried a bouquet of white garden roses and white hydrangeas.

  • Woman’s Club of Harrison County holds March luncheon meeting

    The Woman’s Club of Harrison County met on March 11 at Hospice of the Bluegrass for their monthly luncheon and meeting. President Cheryl Case welcomed members and led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.
    The luncheon was catered by Layne Tussey. The meal included country ham, potato casserole, green beans, roll, fruit salad, and lemon chiffon pie. Ann Wells offered the blessing of the meal. Wells also read a poem about the beauty of spring and the Easter season as part of our spiritual values.

  • Millersburg Garden Club begins new year

    Millersburg Garden Club members gathered at the Wallis House on Thursday, March 10, for their first meeting of 2016. Co-Presidents, Sharon Helphinstine and Marilyn Wells conducted the meeting, which included information about the upcoming Garden Club of Kentucky Convention at General Butler State Park, and the need for volunteers to help with several ongoing and new projects.

  • Starting seeds indoors

    I have my orders placed for onion sets and seed potatoes along with some of my favorite summer crops that will be directly seeded in the garden once the temperatures really warm.
    I can barely stand the wait.  
    I have just seeded out several trays of early season vegetables that like a cool start to the season. Kale, broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts are just beginning to push through the light potting mix.

  • Remember your finances while spring cleaning

    Many people have an annual spring cleaning routine which includes washing windows, cabinets and woodwork. This year take time to also “clean-up” your financial records. Sort through your financial paperwork, and identify old statements which can be shredded or thrown away. Remember, it is always a good idea to shred any paperwork that contains personal information, especially bank account, credit card or other financial information.
