  • Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks celebrate National Eye Donor Month

    March is National Eye Donor Month, a special time to honor those who donate their corneas after death to give others sight. More than 48,000 Americans have their sight restored each year as a result of corneal transplants and can once again see loved ones and the colors of the world.
    First proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan in 1983, National Eye Donor Month promotes eye donation awareness and celebrates the lives of eye donors and corneal recipients.

    Khalil Wayne Commodore was born to Shelby Brooke Mattox and Leon Wayne Commodore of Cynthiana on March 8, 2017 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    He weighed 7 lbs. 1 oz.
    Maternal grandparent is Kelli Morris of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandparents are Linda Morris and Ben Morris, and Ron and Peggy Mattox.
    Paternal grandparents are Adrene Commodore and Howard Custard of Cynthiana; paternal great-grandparents are Cecil Custard, Russell Cutwright and Sandra and Leroy Click.

    Josie Kate Hamm was born to Jeremy and Kacey Hamm of Cynthiana on Feb. 27, 2017 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    She weighed 8 lbs. 6 oz., and is welcomed by her sisters, Emma Grace and Sadie Elizabeth.
    Maternal grandparents are Paul and Michelle Foster and Tim French of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandparents are Len and Wanda Civin, Marilyn and Ronnie Whalen, Dave and Kathy Foster and Sharon and Ed Ratcliff.

    Avery Todd Ashbrook was born to JD and Mary Todd Ashbrook of Cynthiana on Feb. 28, 2017 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
    She weighed 6 lbs. 5 oz., and welcomed by her sister Eva.
    Maternal grandparents are Mike Seamon and Julie Ecklar of Cynthiana; maternal great-grandparents are Dolores Seamon and the late Donald Seamon and the late Rex Ecklar and the late Carlene Ecklar.
    Paternal grandparents are Amy Ashbrook of Cynthiana and the late Greg Ashbrook; paternal great-grandparents are Joyce Evren and the late Joe Ashbrook, Liza Fuller and Ermine Fuller.

  • Potato planting time

    Spring break from teaching at U of L conveniently falls during the week of St. Patrick’s Day, which is also my target date for planting onions and potatoes.  
    I typically manage a mid-March planting but the condition of the soil is my primary concern. I will not start digging until the soil dries out and is considered workable.

    Paternal grandparents are James and Janice Watts.
    Great-grandparents are Geneva French and Horst Muller.
