  • Briefs

    The annual Oddville Alumni dinner will be held May 24 at The Vault, Main Street, across from the courthouse.  Gathering will commence at 4:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Anyone who attended Oddville School or has an affection for it is invited to attend. A hot catered buffet dinner is $18 per person served by Layne Tussey of “The Vault Catering.” Payments are required by May 19.

  • Cedar Ridge Health Campus 2013 charity

    The Cedar Ridge Health Campus selected The Refuge For Women as their 2013 charity. Each year a local charity is chosen by the team.
    The staff at Cedar Ridge promotes fundraisers throughout the year to raise funds as well as volunteering their time and donating vacation hours. The total funds raised this year was $8,162.
    The community’s participation is much appreciated in helping support the nominated charity.

  • Upcoming Harrison County Extension Homemaker events

    The next event on the Harrison County Extension Homemaker’s agenda will take place Monday, May 5 at 6 p.m. They will host their 68th annual meeting. The event activities include dinner, a guest speaker, member recognitions, and a short business meeting. This year’s guest is Chautauqua orator L. Henry Dowell who will present as Harland “Colonel” Sanders, More than Fried Chicken. The event is open to the public and the cost is $12 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the Harrison County Extension Office.

    Harrison County Softball Fillies extend win streak to five games. Freshman softball Fillies tie for third in Elizabethtown. Breds pound Pendleton County, win three of last four baseball games.

  • Upcoming Extension Homemaker events

    The Harrison County Extension Homemakers have been very busy, diligently planning and preparing events and activities that promote community unity. One of those events supported by the Homemakers is the Women’s Health Issue Seminar. It was just held last Monday evening. Guest speakers provided valuable information on The Importance of Quality Sleep; Alzheimer’s disease – Living in the Moment; and Windex, Weight Loss and Being a Work in Progress.

  • Slade recognized for years of dedicated service as treasurer of the historical society

    Dorothy D. Slade was honored by the Harrison County Historical Society on Thursday, April 17 at Biancke’s restaurant. The Historical Society’s President, Donald Wagoner, organized the gathering to honor Slade’s 14 years of service as treasurer of the historical society.
    Twenty-three people attended the dinner and ceremony.
    Former Cynthiana Mayor Virgie Wells gave the invocation.

  • Community Service Block Grant Plan and Budget available for public review

    Community Action Council for Lexington-Fayette, Bourbon, Harrison and Nicholas Counties announces that its 2014-2015 Community Service Block Grant (CSBG) Plan and Budget Proposal is available for public review. The plan reflects assessment of low-income community needs and the Council’s CSBG budget for July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015 as well as projected outcomes for the same period.

  • Omega Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi to install new officers at May meeting

    Omega chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Monday, April 7 at the home of Judy Judy. Bonnie Teater, president, thanked the hostess and scheduled hostess Pat Terhune for being flexible in helping everyone get home in time to watch UK play in the championship game of the NCAA. Twelve members answered the question “how will you behave during the UK game tonight?” Most said by pacing, yelling and screaming.
    The reading of the minutes for the last meeting was given by the secretary, and were approved. Several commented on the newspaper article in the recent Democrat.
