  • Adams selected to compete in Renfro Valley talent contest

    Jarett Clay Adams has been selected to compete in Renfro Valley’s talent contest to be held Friday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m.
    Adams has been doing karaoke for about four years with his brother Justin. They travel to different places to perform.
    He is the son of Ronnie and Dee Dee Adams, and the grandson of Phyllis Schwartz and the late John R. Hudgins.
    Adams is 11 years old and a fifth grader at Southside Elementary School.

  • KET’s Kentucky Life to begin new season Sept. 10

    Kentucky Life host Dave Shuffett begins the series’ 17th year of highlighting the people and places of Kentucky, beginning with Frankfort’s cultural landmarks, the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art, exotic palms and cacti in southeastern Kentucky, and more. The series airs Saturdays, Sept. 10 at 8/7 p.m. on KET; Sundays, beginning Sept. 11 at 4:30/3:30 p.m. on KET; and Sundays, beginning Sept. 11 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. on KET2.

  • Hall-Berry wed in outdoor ceremony

    Jillian Rose Hall and Edward Colten Berry were united in marriage on July 9, 2011 in an outdoor ceremony at the Side Saddle Inn of Cynthiana. Bro. Todd Moody of Stringtown Church performed the Christian service.
    The bride is the daughter of Ronnie Hall of Mt. Sterling and Andrea Hughes of Georgetown. She is a 2010 graduate of Harrison County High School and a student of Maysville Community College.

  • Mattox-Riddell exchange vows alongside the Licking River

    Noel Christian Riddell and Karey Nicole Mattox exchanged marriage vows on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011.
    A quiet, private ceremony was held at dusk alongside the North Fork of the Licking River. Harrison County Magistrate Larry Wells conducted the service. Lucas Wells set the mood with a medley of songs on acoustic guitar. Swallows skimmed the water while fireflies dotted the river bank. The couple was accompanied by Noel’s children, Jordan and Brennan, and Karey’s son, Wesley.

  • Kilpelas celebrate anniversary on a cruise

    Richard and Ellen Kilpela celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on a cruise to Alaska. They were married Aug. 21, 1971 in Superior, Wis.
    The couple has two sons, Scott of Georgetown and Matthew (Jeannie) of Cynthiana, and four grandchildren.

    The descendants of George Lewis (1844-1923), and Mary William Ritchie Mulligan (1850-1943) will hold their annual reunion on Saturday, Sept. 3 at the Harrison County fairgrounds, 4-H building. The reunion will start at 10 a.m. with potluck lunch at 12:30 p.m. Bring covered dishes, canned goods for food pantry and items for auction.
    Schedule of events: 10-11 a.m. registration, door prize tickets; 11-12:30 p.m. meet your relatives; 12:30- 1:30 p.m. covered dish lunch; 1:30- 2:30 p.m. auction; 2:30- 3:15 p.m. magician, Mark Comley; 3:15- 3:30 p.m. door prizes.

  • Hospice of the Bluegrass, Partners to offer Grief Camp for children

    Camp Echo/Hope will be a weekend retreat for children, ages six to 12, who have experienced the death of a loved one within the past two years. It will be held Sept. 9 at Camp Cathedral Domain in Irvine, Ky.
    “Grieving children often feel very alone,” said Sherri Weisenfluh, Hospice of the Bluegrass’ Clinical Officer, Counseling. “Most of their friends do not understand how it feels when someone special dies.”

    Mallory Grace Jones was born to Andrew and Haley Jones of Georgetown, Ky. on Aug. 5, 2011 at Central Baptist Hospital. She weighed 8 lbs. 6 oz.
    Maternal grandparents are Patricia and Michael E. Logsdon of Georgetown; maternal great-grandparents are Mary Parris, Paul Burton, the late Mary Allee and the late David Logsdon.
    Paternal grandparents are Melissa Riley and Jr. Riley, and William Linville, all of Cynthiana; paternal great-grandparents are Philip and Mildred Williams, and the late Mary Jones and the late Jerry Gray.
