  • Webb-Jenkins to marry Sept. 5

    The families of Chassity Webb and Weston Jenkins announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their children.
    Webb is the daughter of Zack and Jennifer Webb, the granddaughter of Tommy and Barbara Mattox and Donald and Ella Webb.
    She is a 2008 graduate from Bourbon County High School and a 2012 graduate from Georgetown College.
    Webb is employed by Paris Physical Therapy.
    Jenkins is the son of Dwayne and Trish Jenkins and the grandson of the late Elmer West Sr. and JoAnn West and Jerry and Jane Ann Jenkins.

  • Museum Musings

    * Cynthiana News, June 13, 1867 -- “Next Saturday, the young people, and the old too, will hold a picnic in the woodland pastures of John McKee, near Broadwell meetinghouse  on Ruddles Mill turnpike, three miles from Cynthiana. Everybody is invited, and expected to bring a basket strapped to the carriage. Good music is engaged for the occasion, and a place prepared for dancing. Our enterprising fellow citizens Hill and Foreman will run a conveyance from Cynthiana every hour.” (There were two areas in the county called Broadwell).

  • Reunions

    The descendants of George Lewis (1844-1923), and Mary William Ritchie Mulligan (1850-1943) will hold their annual reunion on Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Harrison County Fairgrounds, 4-H building. The reunion will start at 10 a.m. with a potluck meal at 12:30 p.m. Bring covered dishes, canned goods for food pantry and items for auction.

  • Summer blooming trees and fall planting

    Ample rainfall and the current mild temperatures means we can get some fall planting done sooner than later.  
    Sure, we plant trees all year round as long as we can get the shovel in the ground, but normally planting this time results in a little stress due to high heat and lots of water hauling.  
    You know me better than to recommend trees that everybody already has in every neighborhood across our hometowns. How about some new trees in the landscape that bloom in summer.

    Golden Heating and Air is out of business and referring all their customers to Central Heating and Air, Inc.
    Gas prices becoming a concern for the Harrison school budget. The school district paid about $40,000 more last school year than the year before for gas. They estimate expenditures of $140,000 for the 2004-05 school year.

  • Ford-Whalen plan August wedding

    Lauren Ashley Ford, Cynthiana, daughter of Rusty and Ragena Ford of Cynthiana, and Hank Whalen, Cynthiana, son of Cathy Caudill and Brad Whalen of Cynthiana, announce their forthcoming wedding.
    The ceremony will take place on Aug. 29, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. in Lexington, Ky.

  • Chambers competes for the Miss Jr. Teen title

    Mercadees Chambers of Berry was recently selected to participate in the 2015 Miss Jr. Teen pageant competition that will take place on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015.
    Chambers learned of her acceptance into this year’s competition when the pageant announced its selections following interviewing in the local Preliminary area. Chambers submitted an application and took part in an interview session that was conducted by this year’s Preliminary Pageant Coordinator.
