  • The Joy of Being a Sinner

Every once in a while, like 20 or 50 times a day, I wonder if I’ll ever get better.
I wonder if my faith will ever grow deeper or stronger, if I’ll ever have more passion for God, more desire for holiness.
Sometimes I think I must surely be the sorriest excuse for a Christian in the history of Christendom.
Sometimes people ask me when my next book is coming out, and I tell them probably never. I explain that the publishing market has changed dramatically, which is true, and that people don’t buy books the way they used to, also true.

These past few weeks I have been diligently preparing for Lent.
    How, you ask?
Well, two weeks ago I found a pair of stone-colored flats online at 30 percent off and bought them. And today I bought a pair of white pants that were on sale (plus I used a $10 off coupon).
Even though it’s only early March and I have several or five pairs of white pants in my closet, they are all Capri-length and these are ankle-length, which is more suited to this time of year, or so I am telling myself.

  • Cake, white lies, and the truth

Have you heard about the Baptist White Lie cake?
Don’t know if this is a true story or not, but it seems that Alice Grayson of Tuscaloosa, Ala., had signed up to bake an angel food cake for the Baptist Church Ladies’ Group bake sale — Alice was known for her light, fluffy, perfect angel food cakes.

  • Choose to renew now

Proverbs 2:6-8 says, “For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; He guards the paths of justice and preserves the way of His saints.”
