  • Lay that donkey down

A young boy and an old man were walking with a donkey when a group of people passed by.
“Isn’t that ridiculous that no one’s riding that donkey,” one person said.
So, the old man told the boy to ride the donkey.
Another group of people passed by and someone said, “That’s terrible! Look at that young boy riding that donkey while the old man walks.”

    BREAD OF LIFE
    LUTHERAN

  • Coming home to Jesus and not a denomination

A while ago someone sent me a newsletter from The Coming Home Network International.
Attached was a note that read: “Mrs. Kennedy, I understand you are a lapsed Catholic. If so, you may find this (newsletter) of interest. Why not return to our Mother Church?”
    It was signed, “a friend.”
In the newsletter, a woman who had grown up as a Catholic wrote about meeting some evangelical Protestants, including the man she eventually married, and spent 20 years attending Protestant churches before returning to the Catholic Church.

  • All the single ladies

To paraphrase Beyonce, this one’s for all the single ladies out there, at least the Christian ones.
The rest of you can read along, too.
Occasionally I run into a man I’ll call Bob. I’m not sure how old he is or what he does for a living, only that he has a steady job — with insurance and benefits. He has all his own teeth, doesn’t live in his parents’ basement, has a reliable vehicle and a good sense of humor.

  • Knowing the real you and not your veneer

Years ago I had a sort of business acquaintance whom I idolized.
I was just getting started in book writing and at the time she was one of the top names in Christian publishing.
This woman wrote some of the funniest books I’d ever read, plus she was highly in demand as a speaker. She probably still is.
Back then she could make audiences laugh until they wet their pants and snap her fingers and bring them to their knees in surrender to the Lord.

  • Should you be happy?

A few weeks ago I was with a group of senior adults and asked, “How many of you would say, for the most part, that you’re happy?”
Almost all of them raised their hands.
I told them I’m mostly happy, too, although I would be completely, totally, 100 percent happy if my kitchen floor would stay clean, I had a flat stomach and if I could eat birthday cake with butter cream frosting every meal every day without feeling sick or getting fat.
