  • Hampton honored for 50 years as church organist

A 50-year celebration will be held to honor Patsy Palmer Hampton on Sunday, Aug. 17, at 10:45 a.m. at Republican Christian Church.
Hampton has given 50 years of service to her church. She began playing the organ at church when she was 15 years old.
Hampton said she began taking piano lessons from Irene Smith, who played for the First United Methodist Church in Cynthiana, when she was in the first grade. She continued taking lessons through high school and even one college class. Each of the other four Palmer sisters also took piano lessons from Mrs. Smith.

  • Ode to the Greatly Offended among us

  • Breast cancer survivor reminds others to keep faith in hard times

The call came when I was at a hospital in Lexington waiting for the arrival of my best friend’s grandchild.
I didn’t recognize the number but thought it was going to be awhile so I could take the call.
I recognized the voice immediately; it was the nurse from my gynecologist’s office.  I wasn’t expecting a call from them because it had been over a month since I had seen the doctor and just as long since any test had been completed.

Freedom. The dictionary tells us that freedom means “the state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement.”

  • God’s mercy: the original GPS

It all started when I was a kid bothering my dad and he told me to get lost.
Ever the obedient child, I did, and I’ve been getting lost ever since.
    Oh, I jest.
