These are evil times, so make every minute count. Ephesians 5:16
Songs from the 60’s and 70’s had titles such as The Times They are A-Changin’ (Bob Dylan), No Time Left for You (The Guess Who), Turn, Turn, Turn (The Byrds), and Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? (Chicago).

  • Appreciating pastors with prayer

    Pray for your pastor.
When faith is your job, it’s easy to grow weary.
I get a taste of it every week when I sit down to write this column. First, I have to think of something that’s hopefully both entertaining, worth saying and also something I think God wants me to say.
Plus, it needs to be biblically accurate and I try to make it as faithful to my particular denominational tradition (in my case Reformed theology) as I can be without totally alienating the Baptists, Catholics, Methodists and/or Pentecostals.

  • Grace for the broken

When I was about 2 years old, I bopped my baby brother with a wooden hammer and once put a wad of gum in my sister’s hair.
I was part of a group of kids who called a girl in our neighborhood “fungus face,” and in eighth grade I spread vicious rumors about a girl who I thought stole my boyfriend.
Once I shoplifted a bottle of Compound W wart remover and a Yardley Lip Slicker lipstick from Thrifty Drug Store.

  • A Pen, a Hammer, a Nail, and a Door

    By Mike Bowen

In just a couple of weeks, on Oct. 31, 2017, it will be exactly 500 years ago to the day that a once but no longer obscure Augustinian monk named Martin Luther nailed 95 thesis statements to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany.
These statements were protesting the sale of indulgences in which the church, seeking to raise funds, promised guilt-ridden people they could purchase a lesser punishment for their sins.
